Congratulations, great find. Once upon a time, at a local yard sale, I found a pretty nice snub-nosed Colt (don't recall the model). Paid some ridiculous low price for it, then sold it for a slightly higher ridiculous low price. As with the OP, their out there all you got do is find them. hardcase60

Yard sales around here only yield lava lamps, used cowboy boots, and old oil funnels. Great purchase !!!

Nice early 19-2 with early style target stocks and a birth year gun to boot,
Wondering if it has the letter "L" stamped on the cylinder face ?

I will look for a "L" what is the meaning? When you say face of cylinder exactly what end is that? Face to me means the end the bullets come out of at high velocity!

The side where bullets load should have an "L" indicating Left hand threaded ejector rod to distinguish it from older right hand thread cylinders.
IIRC the L stamp is unique to 19-1's and first year 19-2's .

Nice find indeed. I guess I need to stop in on some of those yard sales that I pass when cruising in the Vette. One never knows.

They often won't have any guns out for sell, but if you ask if they have any guns that they'd consider selling you occasionally get lucky and they say something like "Well, I've got some old guns that belonged to my Dad but I don't really know anything about them...".

Great score..........depending on the price of course.
I stop at yard sales sometimes and find a gem maybe 1 our of 10.
Years ago I bought a nice Single Six with both cylinders for $150 and another time an old M&P .38 for $110.

A guy I once knew used to go to yard sales in all the retirement communities in the area. He wore a sign that said "I buy guns". I don't know how many S&W revolvers and LC Smith shotguns he stole from little old blue haired widows for a hundred dollars apiece. I told him I thought he was a reprehensible scoundrel but that didn't seem to bother him much. I have bought guns at yard sales, but always paid a fair price.

I didn't say anything as direct as "reprehensible scoundrel", but I mentioned that opinion on the GB forum one time, and was shouted down. The overwhelming consensus was that it was the little old lady's fault for not knowing the value of what she was selling.

You ain't alone on that one.
Twas around 2000, I was visiting my folks and went to help their neighbors, also an elderly couple, set up a yard sale. I had to explain to them that selling the little .25 auto and/or the single-shot .22 rifle that they had set out would likely mean they'd spend the rest of their lives in prison. They thought that was crazy, but put them back in the closet or wherever.

Outstanding find!!!!!!!
I'll never forget the day I drove by a garage sale and as I went by I saw guns leaning against the house. So I turn around, the long guns were junk but on a table there were a bunch of revolvers. The one that grabbed my eye was a S&W model 57 6" barrel and nickel finish, asked how much, $200!!!!! Almost had a accident in my shorts, had to call my neighbor to bring cash. This happened about 10 years ago....

Yep people are usually waiting half an hour before the yard sale begins just in hope of getting the good stuff or guns before anyone else gets there to scarf them up.

When I walked into the garage I see a table to my left with guns. After I take some deep breaths and calm down I pick out these 4 guns, paid $800 for the four.

You guys are waaaayyyy too indoctrinated into MASS/CALI laws and their weird oppressive nonsense.
In TN, there the OP hails from, you can buy from a private seller and it is not even the slightest big deal. I live in Maine now, and lived in VA before that, and have bought and sold hundreds (yes, hundreds) of guns without any tiny little bit of trouble.
In FREE AMERICA you can do that sort of thing.
In about 10 states, you can assume you are in trouble every minute due to draconian legal nonsense.
So, calm down and be super happy for this gent, because he got a fine revolver (one of the best in the world) for a very fine price. He seems to have gotten three free guns in the deal too.

Bought the most powerful air rifle I've had at a yard sale many years ago ANIB. Couldn't wait to get home. The 19-2 is a fine S&W. Good for you!

Sorry if I upset anyone in the free 40 states in this country! To the OP, enjoy your good fortune. I guess only bad people live in MA/Cal.

Nope, there's good people everywhere. But some states have a majority of misinformed people led by a few "bad people".

Ah, "the rest of the story"! Not really scoundrel territory, but still a good deal. What's the rifle in the middle, looks like it has a pretty weird stock?
Side bar: My favorite "Not California" story was from Montana, a couple Cali boys were up there and saw a flyer in town about a yard sale with guns. They head out there, find a few tables set up, one of which had a bunch of rifles and shotguns, and.... Nobody else around! There was a coffee can set up to put your money in for whatever you took.
