Default RE stamped on grip frame?

I have a 28-2 with a stamping of "RE" on my grip frame. Could someone please help me out and tell me what it signifies?

A photo would help. A refinished revolver may be stamped R - S (standard, blue), R - B (blue) or R - Bi (bright blue) on the left lower side of the grip frame. Maybe RE means it was refinished with emeralds?

RE and similar stampings were common on revolvers shipped in the 70s. The relate to inspection and assembly of the revolver, nothing more.
