Default What do I have - stocks

What I know or at least I think I know is that I have a set of rosewood smooth target stocks. I haven't seen this speed loader cutout before and they look refinished. Still looks decent but not my style. I think the cutout was enlarged or added to a non-releaved set. I picked up a set of magna's for $35 and put them on the model 14-2 I bought. Looks much better to me!

Any thoughts on the stocks? Are they modified? Are they worth anything?

I believe that those have been modified. You might be able to get $30- $40 for them, if you're lucky. Once they get cut on they lose any value they would have had if unmolested.

They will definitely clear any speedloader. Appears modified from a factory set but someone out there would probably like to buy them.

Yep..... modified...... not uncommon in the 80s and 90s when wood grips could be found in big boxes in LGS for $5-10 a set.

The Magna's look good but you may prefer the modified targets for shooting....... I'd try it out before selling them!

For some the cut out makes a good thumb rest for one hand target shooting....... what the 14 was designed/intended for.

Yes,they are worth something to someone! I shoot my revolvers and I enjoy grips that are modified to fit MY hand,If I 'destroyed" their collector value so what there are plenty more available to collectors .There is someone right now who would love to have those if they fit their hand and shot well for them!

If the altered stocks feel good in your hand, by all means use them. Function is important. My 14-3 came with target stocks. These are as from S&W. Bob

Thanks for the info. Ill keep an eye out for a set of period correct targets. I just don't like smooth stocks. I am a checkered stocks kind of guy. The magna's will stay on there for the time being. See if I can trade the smooth targets towards a nice set of diamond targets. Even if they are only worth a few bucks.

Many PREFER smooth rosewood stocks, especially with heavy loads. I love their looks.

Find them a good home.
