Grail gun at symposium
Found a grail gun at the Charlotte/Concord Symposium. couldn't afford it outright, but traded into it. Seems the pain threshold is a might lower that way. First year model 57
Pics from the seller.

Do those presentation boxes ever have paperwork/sticker with S/N matching the gun to the box, similar to the sticker on the cardboard boxes? Beautiful deep bluing!

Only if the original buyer/shop took it off the shipping box and put it on the case. I had an late S s/n 4" 29-2 that had the sticker on the bottom of the case. This was before the repro labels got good.

Wow, that is about the best compliment you could get, Charlie. You really cleaned up at the symposium. The royal blue of the Colt Python has nothing on that gun! The "Cokes" have terrific grain and are amazing and I really like the blue velour cloth that was done on those early presentation cases. I bet there aren't a lot of those still around.

It's okay, but it has those dang-blasted adjustable sights. Now, if it were a Model 58....
I'm kidding, of course. That's gorgeous. Congrats.

Super score on the 4" 1st year 57, that one is on my list to go with my 1st year 6"
Paid $1,200 for mine a few years ago with original COKES and presentation case.

What did you trade for it? That plush blue interior of the case really sets it off!

The dark blue velour covering the inserts was phased out beginning in mid-1965. At least a few cases used blue satin during the transition to the "clam shell" case. The offering of Charlie's grail gun and her sister are reasons to attend the annual symposium of the S&WCA. You will find mint examples of a wide variety of pre- and post-war S&Ws, often for sale or trade!!!!!

For crying out loud I can see from the pic it has been reblued, the box is a home made copy as well as the tools.
Just kidding so don't shoot me. That is one fine specimen for sure. It is amazing to find guns that old that were evidently safe queens.

Model 57, 4-inch nickel, S230489, shipped on August 31, 1965 in what might be termed a "transition" case with satin covering the inserts. click on the photo for a much better look.
