A Nickel 19-3
I went to a gun shop in Ft. Wayne and they had 19-3, nickel plated, and original grips. The price was $589. The top of the barrel and the top of the frame had been bead-blasted(cut down on reflection). It looked like it was cut for moon clips and the guy behind the counter said it now shoots 9mm. My question to you guys is could this been done and will it shoot 357 ammo still? Also how does this effect the value?

I certainly am no expert, but would stay away from that 1! Try to find an un-altered 19. 9 mm bullets are normally .355, or .356". .38 bullets are .357 or .358. Accuracy could be off with 9 mm. Is the barrel the original .357?
Somebody will be along with more tips. Bob

sdb321, what you've described may make a good truck kick around revolver. For me the price is at the very top end of the price range. If you want it, understanding what it is or is not, make the seller an offer.

I fear "gunshop commandos" not for their fighting skills as much as for their skill in screwing up a perfectly good fire arm. Who knows what might have been done under the side plate. I would take a pass on this one.

19-3s are P&Red there is a real good chance he may not know that and just assume its gone to Pinnacle or another company to get moon clipped. Spend 15 buck on snap caps and go back and check. Sub $600 for a real nice Nickel 19-3 sounds like a good deal.

That sounds likely to me. We know more about S&W revolvers than most gun shops so the recessed cylinder may have looked like a moon clip cylinder to those that don't know.
No 9mm down my .357's!
