Finally Got It....Model 64 "4" Pencil Barrel Round Butt
The first gun I was issued when I started my LEO career was a blue steel S&W 5 screw 4" pencil barrel M&P. I always liked the look of the 4" pencil barrel, and always wanted a stainless 4" Model 64, but with a round butt. Well I finally got one. I bought a 1973 Model 64 (no dash) 4" square butt from fellow forum member mag318 a few weeks ago, and when I picked it up, I went the next day to the Custom Shop/Gun Shop in Wayne County New York, and had them convert the square butt to a round butt. I got a call this morning that the Model 64 was ready, and went and got it. They did a beautiful job. The gun's grip frame fits perfectly flush with the round butt grips I supplied to them. I don't know if the factory ever made any of these 4" Models with a round butt, but I personally believe that having the gun in this configuration makes this the perfect field/carry revolver. It's not too heavy or bulky and gives a nice sight picture with the 4" tapered barrel.

Congrats on your M64. I was wanting one for my 64th birthday, a 64 no dash. The one I purchased on GB was sent back due to very incorrect description. Still looking. Enjoy.

That is a beautiful gun and the butt conversion looks absolutely flawless. Congratulations! The Md 64 has quickly become one of my favorites after acquiring my first one a couple of years ago which is exactly like what your gun was before conversion. Last year I found a 2 inch 64. Both of them have exceptional triggers and really smooth actions.

Outstanding! I converted a M64 into a Cerakoted black snubby but it started life off as a heavy barrel DAO M64. To tell you the truth, I have no idea what the grip frame looks like; I don't think I ever took the stocks off myself. My standard M64 has a round butt but that heavy barrel makes it somewhat unwieldy. The "standard" barrel looks better and is probably more manageable. Well done!

Most of my guns through the years have bee sq butt models and sort of had it in my mind that magnums should be square. But in the last year after shooting hundreds of rounds through a couple of rb Model 66's, I've found that I'm really a fan of round butts. If you don't mind me asking, what was the cost of converting the frames? I've got a couple I would consider changing

$125+Tax. Well worth the price. Now that I have seen the excellent quality of work they do, I am thinking of some other projects for them.Thank you for your interest.

64
I went the other way. I started with a 64 2" barrel and had a $40
pencil barrel and ejector rod put on. With Hogue bantams, nice!
