Found a model 28-2 4inch bbl looks to be unfired outside factory. Box sn to gun, paper and sat. Traded an import 30 carbine for it. Anyone got the book handy SN: N253996 for dob? All assistance appreciated. Pinned and recessed.

Probably 1974, though they did a little fiddling with those N numbers part way thru and it could be as late as 1977.

dcopper - NICE job. As a collector and hoarder of both M1 Carbines and Garands for decades you really scored. Believe me, I've started to think about which rifles I'd part with now. I'm bitt'n bad by the Smith & Wesson bug.

Thanks to both of ya'll for the info! Eric, it was hard to part with the carbine, but it was an import Inland. I have two more, another inland and a standard products Austrian Border Police marked no import marks on either.

Nice, correct carbines are bringing big bucks now. I have an unmolested 2-43 Inland that I have turned down $3,500 for. I also have an M1A1 Paratrooper that I have been offered big bucks for. Even the old import marked carbines will bring $700 to $1,000. A lot of folks out there want these old war relics. Don't be too quick to trade them off for common S&W's. Big Larry
