Your 66 will handle any .38 special loads. Some recommend sticking with bullets heavier than 125 grain in Magnum loads due to possible issues with forcing cone cracking with the lighter bullet Magnum loads, but this would not hold true for .38s. Shoot any .38s you want with no worries. Value in the current market depends on several things, including overall condition, whether you have the box, documents, and tools that came with the gun new, not to mention where you live - but a rough ballpark iwould be $600 on the low end on up to $750, possibly even higher in some regions and if the other variables mentioned are present and in good order. Can't help you on the holster question but I'm sure others will be along who can.

Congratulations, that's one of the finest revolvers S&W ever made and the 66-1 is thought by most to be the best variant. I'd say $550 - $600 for a decent 4" barrel one without the box around here. More for the 2 1/2". Thankfully for me 66s are only going up in value. Wasn't too long ago you could buy them all day long for $400 -$450. 158 grain 357s only when shooting magnums and whatever 38 special round suits your fancy through it. I don't tote my 66s around so I can't help you with a holster.

I recently found one with the original box, papers, tools and a few extra holsters, loader pouches. $680. Had been on the hunt for a while, posted it up when I got it a couple weeks ago. I've run everything from target .38s through 158gr .357 loads through it and it's a very fine shooter. I won't put a lot of magnums through it, it'll eat up +Ps all day long but I usually shoot it for enjoyment with .38 130gr fmj loads.

Don't be concerned, as warned stay away from the 125gr magnums.

Given your in Calf............ LOL you may need to add $100-200 to it's value compared to the rest of the country.

Milt Sparks makes some of the best IWB holsters....I've been using their Summer Special with a 3" 66 since about 1989.

Number of other good makers......
