Default Identify 2 gems

I recently acquired 2 S&W gems as part of a collection but I don't know much about them. I am not that familiar with revolvers and am hoping this forum can help me out.

The first is a S&W 38 Special and the model number stamped behind the yoke is G Y 18142. This gun also looks to have some special machining of some type on the trigger and the hammer. On the underside of the barrel there is another what looks like hand engraving of a number that looks like it could be 61220-10. I have included a couple of pics that I hope will help.

The other is a S&W 38 special snub nose in nickel. The model number behind the yoke is MOD 15-4. There is also another number stamped on the back side of the yoke F24 51295. This does not match the number on the butt plate. I have included a couple of pics of this one as well.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Welcome! The first is a .38 Military & Police made between 1948 and '57, before model stamping. It should have a C prefix with up to 6 digits after it on the bottom of the grip frame which would tell us how old it is. It has a newer set of factory Target stocks on it and the hammer and trigger have been "jeweled" or engine turned.

The second has the name .38 Combat Masterpiece, which after 1957 was also called the model 15. The -4 was no earlier than the mid-late 1970s and ditto on the serial number and age. Hope this is helpful.

The grips on the M&P are not original but, the 15-4 is right as rain. I would venture an estimated value of $500.00 each and maybe a little higher on the Mod. 15-4.

Two great revolvers!
