A J frame .38 stamped model 36 would have a serial number higher than 38605. Please let us know the full SN from the bottom of the grip frame (with any letters), but $750 for just about any model 36 is high.

It depends on its age, your local market conditions, barrel length, etc., but to me $650 is still high for the gun and stocks but no box or contents. Depends also how badly you want it .

Thanks this has the original crisp box,the story I got it was a gift to a police captain, thats why the fancy presentation grips were put on.For some reason this was never presented to him, dont know if he died or was fired but it remained in the PD vault until now.Brand new gun.I told they dealer on the phone He would have to let me remove the grips and would have to to get the true ser. no.for transfer.I want to see if any corrosion under grip anyway. He thought the crane number was the ser no!.he dosent deal in these.Actually my brother is the one found it and relaying the info,he lives in a town 50 miles away, its on hold, will post pics when and if I buy it.What year was the first mod 36 made?

The first stamped model 36s were from 1957, perhaps early 1958.
