Default S&W model 13-1 in .38 special

I was at my favorite toy store the other day, when I noticed a nice looking 13-1 standard blue steel, heavy barrel. fixed sight revolver. I examined it more closely and noticed the barrel was marked 38 special, however the frame was marked 13-1. The salesman stated that he had a factory letter to go with it and I quote as follows :

" WE have researched your S&W model 13-1 357 M&P, SPECIAL CALIBER VARIATION, CALIBER

38 S&W SPECIAL".

The letter further states that it was shipped on 03/09/76 to Bob Smith Sporting Goods in Boston, Ma. It was apparently a shipment of one and the revolver letters perfectly.

Has anyone out there run across one of these before ? If I can figure out how to post images, I will. No luck in the past.

They are out there and it sounds like you got an excellent deal.

I made the mistake of passing on one a few years ago at a gun shop in Maine (IIRC). I'd really like to find a nice one to pair up with my Model 10-6 chambered for the .357 Magnum.

Maybe it was meant to be a 13 but they ended up using the frame for a 38spl. A few months ago I was looking at a model 15 but the frame was stamped 17
