Default 29-2 Grip fitment

I recently acquired a S&W 29-2, serial number N791XXX, and noticed the grips do not fit correctly. I noticed this before I purchased it. Looking at the pictures, am I correct to assume these grips are for an K/L frame, and not for a 29-2 N frame?

I want the correct grips for this gun. Are the K/L frame grips worth about the same as N frame grips? If so, I will probably take these off and post a WTT thread.

If the grips are not worth the same, any idea what the K/L are worth, and what am I expected to spend for N frame grips?

They are k/l frames. Depending on year ofgun, it probably came with football type grips. Generally in equal condition, N frames are higher in price than K frame grips.

K/L frame grips are sought after but not as valuable usually as the N frame grips

If I buy or trade for a set, should I try to acquire a set from the same year my gun was manufactured, or does it make a big difference in value? Sorry for all the questions. How would anyone tell the year of the grips? I took these off and there is no date stamped on the inside.

So the football cut out grips would be the proper grips?

It is always best if possible to get the original parts for these....especially if they are in good condition..that way just in case you ever have to sell it...you should be able to get back your investment

I don't think anyone ever answered this question so ... Should be 1980 for a shipping date. Footballs for sure!

The M29-3 below is later than yours (shipped late '83). I think it shipped with these Footballs ... since they are stamped Dec 28 1983. So S&W still had some Footballs kicking around the factory in late '83.
