Picked up my first L.E. revolver
I posted my pre-28 grab on the older forum, but here's the first law enforcement revolver I've ever owned.
I continually see you folks posting L.E. finds and have often thought it would be great to find a Wyoming L.E. shooter.
Well, one appeared at the Riverton show last weekend. It's a Model 15-4 stamped W.L.E.A. (Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy) on the left side of the frame below the cylinder. Inside the back strap there's a metal strip stamped with the model number and probably an internal inventory number. The guy at the table next to mine at the show had attended the Academy for several different classes, and I have a good friend who's a retired Wyo Highway Patrolman so the gun holds a slight sentimental attachment (we can find any excuse to buy another one, right?). The stocks are not original to the gun, and it's probably from around 1977 (sn 81K89XX).
I wrote to the Academy this morning to ask a bunch of nosy questions. If they're able to tell me where the Academy bought the gun -- especially if they bought it directly from the factory -- I'll likely ask Roy for a letter.
Slàinte,
Bob

Congrats on your purchases. I also viewed the pictures of your nice M28 buy. I doubt this revolver was factory stamped, but I am no expert. I have a Model 10 no dash with factory LE stamping and they are nice and straight. Either way you scored some nice revolvers. You can be thankful it was not electro-penned.

Nice find. And in really great shape for what was presumably a training gun. But maybe they just used it as a classroom demo and it wasn't carried in a holster or shot much.
If the state of Colorado issued this model to state LEO's in larger quantities (likely if the academy used it), they may well have ordered in bulk from the factory. But I would also think that even in that case the obvious hand-stamping of the individual letters wasn't done at the factory.

Bob
All 81K numbers were issued in 1980.

Congrats on a great find. I carried a Model 15 as my issued weapon for years, great service gun.

And I packed one around SE Asia for two years, nearly 50 years ago.
I agree - great sidearms.
