The guns with the first 3 letters on the serial number are difficult. I don't see any CAS serials in the S&W standard catalog, But it show all the CAM through CAZ serials as being in 1996. Have no idea on value. Some of the "special models" of this era had low production numbers and have some premium to the right buyer. Some do not.

Welcome to the FORUM!!! Good looking Smith in my book. Finger groove stocks don't work for me though. Must be my hands.
Go to Gun Broker to see what like similar guns are selling for. Remember, sellers can ask whatever they want. Doesn't mean they are worth it. The TRUE tool is to look at what they ACTUALLY SOLD FOR! Bob

Welcome! Similarly marked guns were mostly for export markets like Germany, and the stocks resemble Nills.
Are you in Europe? If so, the gun market pricing over there can be quite different than here and a value estimate may be difficult.

I was going to say those grips look like Nills. If so, that's about $200+ value just in the grips.
I have some round butt combat Nills on my Python, and man do they produce some quality wood. Price is a little high but not that much different than any custom grip maker.

It's a mid 90's and basically a 29 with special designations . I'm pretty sure most were made for export to Germany. I'm thinking they were also made in 38/357 caliber (L Frame).

Your Model 29 has a 5" fully shrouded barrel.
These are very desirable model 29s and can sell for over $1000.00 when they do come up for sale.
Those grips look like Nils and they are very well regarded and are worth something by them self, or with the gun.
At some point, i actually want to add one to my collection.
Have you shot it at all? I would not be quick to get rid of it if I were you.

First at all thank you all very much for your replies which helped a lot.
Yes I am resident in Germany and bought this gun 4 years ago from a german gunsmith with the original case and with the Nill grips already on probably delivered like this by SW. It seems to be even if made for the export market in Germany very rare, never seen this gun before or after I bought it. At the moment the gun is for sale at a german online auction platform specialised on guns (pendant to e..y but for guns). Also right the german market has different mechanisms, in my impression the gun is much more appreciated in the US as in Germany.
Again thank you for identification.
Has somebody any idea about figures produced ? 1996 SW ceased production of the 29 so maybe this model could be something like an end of production series for export to Germany productioncode is 101286
