Probably from late 1979, and it is one size up from the J frame in S & W revolvers.

Nice gun! They are good shooters in my book! Much easier for me to shoot than a J frame. I have a 10-5 from 1974. Enjoy your 10! Bob

There is nothing better in my book than a K frame snubby. I often carry one on my belt, IWB or OWB, depending on clothes. My two favorites are a Model 10-7 and custom Model 64 that we have discussed on the Forum before.
So much easier to shoot than a J frame, so much more accurate, not much more difficult to conceal. Gotta love those!

Bananaman, tell me about those stocks, please. They look an awful lot like the ones on my M64.

Started out with a rough set of square butt Herrett Targets. (another set)
Used a pencil to mark what to remove from the grip contour to round on back side. Cut, sanded & shaped until satisfied. Flip over, and sanded out all checkering. Wood had a nice natural color. Darker than many I have owned or seen. Finished with Minwax clear gloss spray lacquer. Did not have to do anything to finish. 3 or 4 coats. It took time & effort. Minimal $ investment. I like them. Can I barge in please??
I'm away at our cabin and I'm learning just now of an auction that will be Sunday. It's the estate of an old boy down the road....I didn't know him.
Anyway, there are two S&W revolvers on the block. One is a 10-2 snub nose. From the blurry pictures available neither one seems in that good of condition but I don't shoot pretty either. They look like they were kept on a shelf in their holster about 300 feet from a lake in Northern Michigan. Lots of surface brown and some pitting too.
The other is a model 36 with what looks like a 5 or 6 inch barrel.
The auctioneer won't let me near these things so all I know is what I have shared. Any guidance? Both are 38spl and I like that. If they are decent mechanically is there anything special about these two models? My only S&W handgun is a 28-2 Highway Patrolman and I love it. I'd like to own these two.
I know the model 10 is an icon in the LEO world, and I'm not familiar at all with the model 36. Any help or thoughts at all is much appreciated. Thank You.

What you are thinking is a 36, is most likely not. 36 is small J frame, 5 shot. Barrels came in 2, & 3".
My 10-5, posted above came to me last year for $329 shipped, to give you a price idea. Again, it has honest wear. It does perform well, and is fun to shoot! Good Luck! Bob

Hey thanks for the response. My guess is that the auctioneer has things turned around in the advertisment. And...the guy just called me back and said that they are planning a preview later today. I'm really happy to hear that. At least I'll have a chance to look these things over without some auctioneer yelling in my ear.

Just a word of warning, they have a habit of multiplying.

Well the auction was today and the revolvers weren't there. According to the auctioneer, there are "registration issues". He is offering to connect me directly with the owner. Out of curiosity, I'm going to follow this opportunity for a bit. We'll see where it leads.....

Mine is the square butt model and is a perfect fit w/a grip adapter. Shot it this week and cut the center out of the target from seven yards.
