Default Minty 4" 57 and a 25-2 at Local Pawn

I was not looking to purchase either of these but they got my attention. More so the 41 mag. These of course are the asking prices and I think they've been there a while. Now, I still need to go in and inspect, I've only viewed through the display case so far. But they do come with boxes apparently.

What would you offer for either if you had the cash? I know you need more pics but assume excellent condition.

If it were me, I would try to buy the 41Mag. Depending
on inspection and box, I would take cold hard cash there.

If you decide to buy, I would lay $1K on the counter,
take it or leave it. Only show the $1K. That $1K would
be the out the door price.

Just a thought.

I'm in alignment with Norseman, about a grand.

yes, no more than a grand if the 41 has all boxes, papers and complete. Looks very good though. The 25 may or may not have large throats and is not easy to load for in case it has large throats

I would rather have the 25-2! But I agree with the strategy above. However, I would lay out $2000 in $100s as an OTD price for both. Send more pictures when you get them home!

I would inspect the 25-2 for throat size if it's good I would consider it also, if it's bad don't say any thing about it.make an offer on the 41 mag , and try to get it for $900. If it's has a good throat $1800 for both OTD.

There is a sporting goods store near here that has a 6" early model 57 setting in its display case, inside their display case. Pretty sure its wearing cokes and has the exact same price on it as the one above. They know I am a S&W guy and pointed t out to me right after they got it. I haven't even asked inspect it yet. Let it sit there a while at that price. Plus, I am not really a41 mag fan. But, once they give it the first price drop I'll start in on trying to get it. If it has cokes I will go 1200

If you do not handload, then the model 57 will not get shot a lot, in all likelihood. I hardly ever see 41 Magnum Ammunition on the shelves.

It is a great round, and the 57 is a great revolver, but you may not shoot it a lot.

The 25-2 is something that you could shoot all the time as 45acp is plentiful. Check the throats on the cylinder and make sure they are all the same size.

I don't load and buy my .41 from LAX ammo and they always have in stock new manufactured .41 in stock for about 50c cents a round. For some one like me it makes sense to load up from them when they feature free shipping with a 100 buck purchase.....go for the .41. I have two 25-5s and I like those guns but I sure like the 57 a lot. I would go for the 57 but that sure is a steep price. Mine is no where near the condition as that one or have the accoutrements but I only paid 700 dollars so I can't complain.

I want a 4" .41 Mag. However, I don't want one anywhere near $1500 worth. If it has the presentation case with accessories, I'd probably go as high as $1000-1100 OTD. If not, I'd probably balk at anything over $900. That is assuming it is indeed as nice as it looks in that picture.

Just remember... pawn shops have maybe half of asking price in their good for sale... I have no sympathy for them and always lowball with cash in hand... on a Monday morning!

As always, prices are affected by location and condition.

At that price, the M57 would barely get consideration here, even with box, papers, and in 95% condition. ANIB, maybe. The caution flags on the 25-2 are well-heeded. I'm with the $2K cash OTD gang.

.41 Magnum ammo is not a big deal, IMO. Moralem nailed it on LAX Ammo; I've shot at least 1000 rounds of it, and like it. If nothing else, it's great for reloading - new Starline brass. Reed's Ammunition & Research has a good range of .41 ammo, including the .41 Special, if you're into that. Reed's Ammunition & Research, LLC

Thanks all for your advice. I'll likely not even make an offer as a forum member has a pristine 28-2 that will likely get my cash. And the 28 was on my wish list after all.

I used to have an acquaintance who managed a large pawn shop. He said it was common practice to "tipple up" for setting prices. This gave room for bartering and helped to maintain inventory, and keep the lights on in the few instance where they actually got asking. This was a two way street however and he said was used to both ot set prices based on what they could get items for or sort out an amount to offer based on current market. Given the high prices of those guns I'm guessing the asking is based on an attempt to profit, and there's a fair bit of flexibility. I'd guess they are well under 1K in each and offer no more than that. Good luck

Looking at the inventory numbers, the 57 was a pawned gun. The 25 was added to his inventory a different way, like from another shop, or from an on line source, not from a customer that walked in and sold or pawned and lost it. The three letters in the upper right hand corner are probably what he paid for the guns. A ten letter code word with no repeated letters is used.

Funny you should mention this, my dad taught me a similar letter/number system - the ten letters spell "make profit" ( but not a joke!)

I'm afraid he'd have to keep both for his price.
