The love of my life, the .357 Magnum.
Over the years, my firearm interests have varied a lot. I have a large collection of beautiful walnut stocked rimfires that I love to shoot and maintain. The favorite of which is my CZ 452 FS in 22 LR.
And I have dozens of Smith revolvers in various calibers and I love them all. But when I think about the FAVORITES, it's always the .357 Magnum. Just something about the weight, the recoil, the power. All of which are totally manageable for even a sub hundred pound kid.
In my collection, lately, I gravitate to these two. The 27-2 on the left wearing Culinas (originals tucked away in the box), and the 66 no dash. I'm feeling like a little kid again and that's been a while!
Thanks for letting me share.

It's just the right size not too big not too small it is just right. Easy shooting with 38 spl, can get down to business with 357. I enjoy shooting my 357's probably more than the rest. I have a few but a 27 is on my short list, those checkered tops just make me drool!! So far the prices have kept me 27less

Hey Kid I have to agree with you. My 357's out number the other by far. You certainly have a very nice pair there.

I too love the 357 Magnum.
A 6" Model 27 was the first NEW firearm I ever acquired. Now only 4 decades later, it still resides in my home.

I really like .357's, and have 27's, 28's, and 686's. In fact a 4" 27-3 was my first cop gun...but I will take a .41 magnum over the .357 for just about anything.

Went to the range Saturday and brought my 686 SSR and my new Walther PPQ 9mm. Enjoyed the Walther, but had fun shooting the .357. Warmed up with 38's then went full magnum. I have a 27-2 3 1/2, Python 4", my 686, and am waiting on a 4" Korth .357. Got .22, 9mm and .45s. But the .357 has been my favorite for a long time.

.357 !
I'm with you guys,....I love my .22s, 9s and .45s. and carry a .38 every day. But if I was invited to a shoot and was told I could only bring one gun ....easy choice, I'd bring my 686, 5" without a second thought. I bought my first .357 in 1980 and have never been without at least one.

I know what you mean, Kid. I think the 357 Mag round is the most fun round to shoot in either rifle or pistol too. My first pistol I ever bought, new or otherwise, was a 5" nickel 27-2 like yours and I still have it. I only have N frame 357 pistols though, as I just naturally gravitate to the N frame in a revolver. I also have a 357 Mag Coonan Classic, which is a 1911 style semi auto that is really sweet to shoot too. The only problem with it if you are a reloader like myself, is that it throws the brass into the next county over when shooting hot loaded 357's. And I have a Rossi 92SRC I bought back in the 80's in 357 and you can shoot it until the cows come home without killing your shoulder. I also have a Browning B92, which is a Miroku-built 1892 clone in 44 Mag and it kills on the pointy end and maims on the blunt end with hot 44 Mag ammo.

A good 357 magnum revolver is hard to beat as far as versatility goes but if you add in a good 357 rifle and maybe a realoading set up it may just be the perfect 1 caliber choice if not perfect it would be darn close .

.357 is my favorite as well. I have many other guns and calibers, but .357 is king. People argue all the time about 9mm, .40, .45 and others, but no one argues about the effectiveness of .357 magnum.

I don't know what you are talking about
357s, especially model 28s which are my favorite can do many things, light target to hard hitting. However, I got my first 41 mag, a wonderful model 57 and now already a second on, a 4'' model 58 with a slick trigger job on the way. I see a worry-some pattern...I think there is a magic in the 41 which makes for a nice collector as well.

While I love a Glock 19 and feel it is the perfect pistol FOR ME, I absolutely love my 5" 27-2. While it's vintage and collectible, I shoot it a lot, .38 Spl, .357s, factory and reloads, I love shooting it. Hard to beat a 5" N-frame IMO.

I own more .357s than any other pistol. IMO it's the best pistol cartridge ever made. In my world it will kill anything that walks, flies, crawls or slides on it's belly. Larry

I still don't have a .357 revolver but we really like our Interarms Rossi 16" Trapper in .357. The little thing is very accurate and magnums are fun to shoot in this 4.9-lb rifle.

I am with you on prices keeping me from a 27. I did buy a nice 28, 6" no dash though (1960). Close, but no cigar! It doesn't know the difference! Bob

.357 gives the best balance of:
Power (.38 wadcutters to full bore magnums),
Recoil, and
Gun size ( J-N frames with a sweet spot on the K &L frames)and weight.
IMHO..........makes me want to ...............
Oh ya;...... don't want to forget those great little .357 carbines......... Ruger's 77/357 and Winchester's .357 Trapper.
CZ rimfire rifles ......... are a great value, and even better shooters........ FS/Mannlicher's in .22lr , 22 magnum and .223 are my walking in Penn's Woods rifles...........................

Must be the love of my shooting life too. I have 6 of them. Four are S&Ws and the other two are Colts. The S&Ws are in order 28-2, 686-1, 66-3, and 65-2. My Colts are a 4" and 6" Pythons made in the same year.

Hmm?...only issue is that Rick calls "his" Python a .44 magnum. TV writers are so clueless. Worst "gun show" on TV...totally clueless. Sometimes to the point of being down right silly. Guns that never run dry, no one ever reacts to the sounds, and people who have never touched a gun making perfect head shots on moving targets while running the other way. But then it is a ZOMBIE show so belief is suspended.

I concur with all the love for the 357 Magnum. It is my favorite cartridge ever, PERIOD. It will do anything and everything that I need of a cartridge in my geographic location (if I lived in Africa or Alaska, my needs would probably be different, but it's PERFECT for Ohio).
It is also housed in my favorite handgun ever, PERIOD. I love the S&W Model 19. I think it is the perfect handgun for my needs and my hand size.
A 4" 19 on my hip is very comforting and will solve pretty much any problem that I need a handgun for. Plus, said 19s have traveled many, many a mile with me. They are old friends and trusted companions.
I am never without one and am rarely out of reach of one.

Based on numbers in my safe I'd have to agree! It's hard to beat a 357 for flexibility, and just plain fun.

My first gun was a .357, a Model28-2. I've bought about two dozen more since then, mostly S&W plus some Rugers and a Rossi lever action rifle. I own more .357's than any other handgun by far. My first service revolver was a Model 19-7, and my current service revolver is a SP-101. I think the .357 revolver is the ideal handgun. Load it with .38's for plinking, .38's or .357's for two legged problems, or heavy .357's for larger animals. Two of guns I most regret not buying when I had the chance were .357's, the 686 Mountain Gun and the Marlin .357 rifle.

I am sure glad that I do not have to decide between the two. I bought my first Smiths, a 19 and a 57, about 1979/80. I still have them. Yes they do multiple over the years. Thank God we live in the US of A.
