Model 10-5 5"
I came in possession of a really "finished challenged" blued Model 10-5 with a five inch barrel. (Never owned any revolver with a five inch barrel).
The story was that it was a new revolver that was stolen, recovered and then sat in a P.D. property room for a long time. Rust with pits on the exterior, but the interior appeared like new. Cleaned and lubricated and next time to the range took it along for laughs and giggles.
SHOCK !! this old timer shoots better than my newer prettier S&W .38 Revolvers !

I also have a 5" barrel 10-5 with a similar history. It came from the Quinnett County, Georgia Police Dept. as a trade-in. I doubt it was a law enforcement revolver and suspect it came as a police acquired gun. It had a serious run of rust on the right side of the frame and along the side plate. I have seen pictures of firearms with similar rust corrosion/rust pattern which was either blood or hot sauce spillage according to the sources.
It was so bad, I cleaned it best as possible and removed all the remaining bluing by soaking about 2 hours in 50/50 mix of white vinegar and tap water. It became a gun in the white or bare steel. I re-blued it. It will never be a beauty queen.
It is like yours with a great trigger pull and is accurate. I think you have a winner even if it will never win a beauty contest. The two of us will never know the story behind our distressed revolvers.

I picked up a 10-5 with 5-inch barrel just on a whim, "'cause it
was there."
But mine has a very beautiful bluing. Only
thing "wrong" with it is a nick on the right side of the barrel.
Nice to know regarding mine that not all early 1960s Smiths
were treated poorly. If I had to guess, it was purchased and
fired very little and then spent many years in a drawer of someone's home.

Why do people ask questions here without pictures?

I don't see that he asked a question. He appears to just be excited with his new purchase. Pictures would be a plus though.
