Vinatge Service Revolver Retro Update
So I've been reading Bill Jordan and Skeeter Skelton and decided to update my old 1979 vintage Model 66 with some new sights and an old "combat" trigger. But what really spurred this was getting the factory "bobbed" hammer. The handles are Fuzzy Farrants.
Sadly, I still have to find a firing pin, spring and rivet before taking this to the range.
With the exception of the hammer I've had this stuff laying around for a few years. I'm thinking of doing a Texas Ranger Commemorative trigger guard cut ... but am holding off. As a young Patrolman I really lliked all the appointments on S&W's first commemorative, but they were not all available then. The bobbed hammer makes more sense on a "working gun" than the long target version.
And here is the updated revolver ... 1970's high tech!
In it's original form ...
PS: Thanks to Photobucket uploading two pictures only took about a half hour. Probably be a good thing when they catch up with me and lock up my pictures. The I can find a more efficient photo hosting site.

Great job!! All the right changes. Did or will the Patridge Sight require a taller rear sight blade? regards, hardcase60

I had the patridge sight on another revolver and although it is shorter than the original ramp, I had enough adjustment to zero it with 125 grain Remington +P, which is my preferred load in this handgun.

Interesting! Thanks for the reply. In comparing the before and after photos the original ramp appears to be shorter. Optical illusion or my tired old eyes? Hummmm. Either way thanks again and a great job. hardcase60

The original ramp was about 40 thousandths taller, I do like the patridge sight better -grew up on a K-22. I should have enough adjustment in the rear to compensate.

That is one sweet and sexy revolver. Personally I prefer a black front sight over a coloured insert. I always end up instinctively using the insert instead of the top of the front sight.

Looks good. Almost like stepping back in time.
Steel-6
Speed loaders? Hell, just carry 2 or 3 wheel guns.

Great looking revolver, big fan of bobbed hammer but never could warm up to the Fuzzy Farrants. An acquired taste I guess.

Are those "Rogers" grips in your original photo?

The first thing I did in 1979 on picking up the 66 was buy a set of Hogue monogrips. I had a choice between Hogue and Rogers, but liked the Hogue a little better. The Hogue handle was never 100% as I didn't like the way it fit my "pinky" finger.
When those Fuzzy's arrived to me they were rather used. The left side had a thumb shelf and right side panel flared out and was badly chipped. I carefully sanded down the thumb rest and the flare on the right side. As a result the handles fit my hand better than any of the previous grips I have had on the piece in the past four decades. They are even more comfortable than the Fuzzy's on my Model 15 - which are checkered on both sides!
When I got the patridge sight it was black - but it got bead blasted when it was on another barrel. The gray sights don't pose much of an issue on most targets and are fine on black paper.
