Default What kind of revolver do I have?

I have an S&W revolver that I can't identify. Photos are attached, but here's some basic information:

1. Model: 19-3 (I doubt this is right since the gun is stainless)
2. Caliber: .357 magnum
3. Barrel: 2 1/2 in.
4. Grips: Pachmayr
5. Serial: 6K#####
6. I got only the gun and a soft case with the purchase.

I would like to know the following:

1. Model (which version of the model if possible i.e. 66-3, 19-4)
2. Estimated year of manufacture
3. Estimated value

Thanks in advance everyone!

TheHoff,

Welcome to the forum. Couple of things that need clarification:

The pics didn't make the post.
If the "19-3" came from the frame, behind the yoke, when the cylinder is opened, then that is what you have. That possibly make's it a nickle finish if from the factory or even a refinish. It could also be an aftermarket finish in hard chrome which could resemble stainless. Regardless, if it is a 19-3 it is NOT stainless.
The .357 and 2 1/2" barrel match a 19-3
Pachmayr grips/stocks are not original to that model.
To make an accurate presumption on the age at least three more digits to the right of the "6K" would be needed.
The estimated value is based on all the above, plus finish and mechanical condition along with location. Hope this helps, hardcase60

A 6Kxxxxx would make it a 1974 or 1975.

Here is a 1967 Model 19-2 with the three T's (target trigger, target hammer and target stocks)

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the FORUM! You probably have a factory nickel 19. There should be a "N" stamped in the gun butt frame indicating so. I recently picked up a 66-2, 2.5". (stainless version of 19) You are in for some shooting pleasure! Bob

The O/P may have to remove the grips to check for the "N" marking. It should, also, have the "N" marking on the back of the cylinder.

It is nickle, not stainless steel.

And it is a beauty! Good find buddy, and welcome!

The top of the frame and barrel are matte bead-blasted and appear very similar to stainless, but the rest of the gun (and the stampings) show it is a nickel gun.

Conversely, you can polish a stainless gun and make it look like a polished nickel gun. Some really like this and some don't. Enjoy!

Congratulations!!

What you have is a factory nickel finished, 2 1/2" barrel, Model 19-3, with aftermarket stocks, born in 1975.

From the two pics the finish looks to be in above average condition. Any pitting underneath the stocks or scratch's would detract from value which could range from $550.00 & up, again depending on local and how you might want to sell it.

If it were mine and a family heirloom it would not be for sale.

It's very possible you have an aftermarket refinished revolver with an industrial hard chrome. These were very popular in the 80's and 90's, and most of these finishes wear like iron and are still desirable today. (Saw your pictures after this was posted, you have a factory Nickle finish).

This is a Mod 19-4 that I had a hard chrome finish put on back in the 90's. It is truly a very tough finish.
