The hammer spur broke on my M17-2, should I try to find a new hammer or have someone solder/weld the old hammer?
I'm not the original owner, it is quite worn and I only paid 90 bucks for it. So I don't want to spend a fortune repairing it, but it shoots really well and I really like it
I would not try to repair the hammer. Couple of reasons for this. But, there are several K frame 22 hammers on Ebay right now. The hammer may or may not need a minor amount of fitting once installed. Also, several of the hammers on Ebay are not labeled as being for a rim fire. The K 22 guns like the 17-2 did not have a firing pin nose on the hammer as their pin was frame mounted. The hammers have a small bump on the front. Look at the front profile on yours. Some of the ones for sale did not have the double action sear attached, but yours could be installed on one of them easily.
Numrich also shows K 22 hammers in stock.
More modern center fire S&W revolvers also do not have a hammer mounted firing pin (nose), but they also use another system for mounting the double action sear.
