Default Model 66 value

Hey all, first post here. Picked up a model 66 recently and was wondering what the value might be. Its a Montana Dept of Fish and Game issue. Apparently 130 were issued back in 1975. It's definitely not a safe queen as it has normal wear being 40+ years old now but shoots like a dream. Such a nice trigger. Original grips but scuffed up a bit. Will work on some pics

Any info would be great! Thanks

Barrel length and condition play a huge role in valuing a gun.

Also is the gun stamped with Agency markings? Could be a plus to some.... but most likely a negative impact on value.

I have an older Model 66 issued (or not) by the Iowa Highway Patrol. My father in law bought 6 when the state issued semi-autos. The one I have did not have any holster wear and may not have been issued. It has been carried and fired a bunch since I got it.

A well used 4 inch M66 will go for $550 minimum on gunbroker. Add transfer and sales tax and you are at $600, give or take.

Departmental markings can mean something to the right buyer, but usually not.

You realize that one of these was used by a Montana warden to kill a grizzly bear that was mauling him?

Remember that when we next have a bear thread in The Lounge.

$500 shooter grade.................... if in good mechanical condition...... IMO to most buyers the MF&G stamp drops the value

If you are in Montana it would make a great camp and hunting back up gun......................

Looks pretty durn good to me. The right hand stock with the cut out for the department marking is something you don't see every day. Some of the commerative guns have these as well. Texas Ranger comes to mind, but I think those were smooth. They don't look beat up in the pictures, but if they need repair there are folks on this forum that can do it.

Shoots awesome. Very smooth and crisp trigger. Pretty cool markings regardless. How many pistols/revolvers with grizzly bears you see on them?! Not many issued. Select group for sure.
