My daddy's .44 and my memory
My dad recently passed on to that great shooting range in the sky.And while I'm sad about that, I'm happy to have received an old friend in the form of a S&W mod 29-2 .44 mag with nickel finnish and 8 3/8 barrel. I went with him to pick it up at surplus city when he bought it. I think I was around 8 years old. Maybe 1971. Anyway the s/n is N3505xx. any help would be great.

Sorry about your dad. That s/n should put it a little later '75-'76.

Daddy's .44
I learned how to load bullets so I could shoot it as a kid. Many thousand rounds. The gun was dad's carry gun in the winter, and paper killer year round. Still looks great and seem to be tight. I got some Houge rubber grips for it. Can't Wait to go warm the barrel up killing paper,. Thanks Dad

Sorry for your loss, It's good that he left something behind for you to enjoy. It's a sad ending that's a new beginning.
We'll see him again when we move on.

Thank you for your help. 1976 I would have been 13, seems like I was younger but I guess not.

My daddy's .44 and my memory
That is a great memory......when I pass mine on down to the grand kids I hope they will remember grandfather as warmly and deeply as you do your father. Great gun by the way. Here is mine with a set of Eagle stocks.

I don't know if non-gun people can appreciate that connection. I suppose other objects could serve but that love of firearms seems like a special bond.

Agreed, if they belonged to a family member and/or close friend, they take you back to the good times.
I see it with cars and trucks as well.

Richard, remember that rubber grips can and will trap moisture. So, remember to remove them from time to time and wipe the grip frame down. I use a silicon cloth, for this.

My Dad has been gone for 32 years. He had this old single shot bolt action 22 LR. It's barrel had a slight bend to the right, not much but there it was. I love that old rifle. I went to Europe as a Photojournalist and lost sight of it as time went on.
We had great fun in the Mojave Desert with it. Sorry no photos, I was only 12.

Sorry about your dad. I lost my dad in 2009, so I can relate. My dad left behind a few guns and although I now am the owner of them I still and forever refer to them as "Dad's guns".
Anyway....nice nickel 29-2 you have there! But, I wonder if your dad had the cylinder changed out at some point in time because I notice the chambers are not recessed......they should be on a 29-2.

Loosing a Dad is a guy's worst problem. Thousands of memories, ways to do things and
general memories that flood back with instances that are reverent to whatever you are doing.
Having something that you both shared and both revered shows your love for him!
Having a shared love with your mentor is the perfect way to cherish memories of your Dad.

My mistake. You are correct! I went back and studied the earlier pic more closely......they are indeed recessed.
