Default Baby's got some new shoes!

Went to a local gun show to find a set of factory "J" Frame stocks for my recently purchased Model 37. (Keep in mind I ordered some Altamont Walnut with silver shield stocks for it too). I found a nice "matching from an age and condition standpoint" S&W Stocks and a nice set of the silver/black Altamonts for a "C" Note. Of course when I got home the Altamonts were in the mail box despite a Monday estimated delivery date! So now I have three sets of wood stocks for the gun and the ugly MOPs. I like the look of the factory stocks but I like the feel of the walnut Altamont Stocks which are now on the gun. I also bought a box of Remington 158 Grain Lead Round Nose 755 FPS ammo - appropriate I think for this revolver. Here are some photos of two of the three stock sets on the gun:

Altamont Walnut Stocks

I like this shot - it shows how clean the ignition system is on this gun!

The ammo is safe for the gun, but is the type that gave the .38 Special its poor rep for stopping power. But I don't know of much else that won't risk cracking the frame on the Airweight guns. Presumably, Federal's old Chief Special Nyclad load was okay, but I don't think it's still made. Was 125 grains at about 825 FPS.

I think Buffalo Bore may load full power wadcutter ammo. I'd look into that If I had an Airweight. That should be about 150 grains @ 850 fps.

The grips look beautiful! I recently revived an old thread about magma style grips expressing my disappointment in those who remove magna grips in favor of large oversized rubber grips because it hurts their hands. I am in complete favor of the magnas. I'm surprised at how many people dislike them. They are as classic as the guns themselves. The stock grips on your 37 look amazing as well, I personally would've stuck with those, but if you are going to change them, at least you picked the right kind! I love the diamond grips a lot. I prefer the ones just after diamond deletion, but those are gorgeous. Nicely done!
