Default Some Questions Regarding a 65-2

I thought it was standard that a S&W had the serial number stamped on the barrel underside and on the cylinder but mine does not. The serial (1D458xx) only appears on the frame in the normal position. Assembly numbers match on the yoke and the frame. The frame on the right hand side has an addition number (7636) along with an X in a circle and a T in a triangle just above that number. So..is it normal for the barrel and cylinder to be blank on the 65-2 and would this serial number place it being made in 1979 ? Any thoughts on what the 7636 number indicates ?

I have a bunch of S&W revolvers dating from 1971 to the present. None have serials numbers anywhere but the frame.

S&W stopped stamping thr serial number under the barrel and on the cylinder around the same time they started Model numbers.
