I talked my buddy out of his Model 12-2
It wasn't that hard. He bought it, pitched the Hogues it wore into the river, bought some regular K frame magnas, thinned them until they fit the skinny Model 12 frame, grew bored with it, and sold it to me for $400.
It's the cleanest one I've ever seen. I had a 2" one that would shed finish if I used harsh language around it.
My pal never shot it. It doesn't look like anyone else did much either.
I don't do safe queens, so I will shoot it in a day or two.
I remember Osprey's epic thread where he shot 1,000 rounds of +P through his 12-2 with no sign of ill effect. I'll try a few, but I'll probably shoot mostly standard stuff, more out of deference to my wrists than the aluminum frame.
Look - not cracked:
I know the 2 incher has a following - lighter than a Model 60, one more round, better sights. I'm not sure the 4 incher has as many fans.
I like it, though.

Congratulations, it sure looks like you got a nice 1! At $400, I would buy 1 in that condition in a heartbeat too! Bob

Nice model 12.
I have favored the model 12 many moons.
I remember that particular thread.
Gave my daughter a 2" model many years ago.
Snagged this one off a table at a little Texas
gun show last year for $350.
1963 Vintage 2 inch...not as clean as yours but
pretty crisp.

Nice gun at $400. Those grips are hard to find.

I wish S&W would reintroduce the M12. In modern aluminum it would be great.

The frame under the barrel threads looks pristine. Very nice condition, looks pretty much unfired. Good luck with it. Last summer I returned a nearly new Model 37 square butt to the mother ship due to frame cracking. They replaced it with a brand new 637. It is in a Desantis holster on my belt right now. Love those Airweights!

I put fifty rounds of 158 grain SWC through it today. At 15 yards six of those rounds made a pretty fair group. It was a pleasure to shoot.
I have been very fortunate to add four new Smiths to my safe in the last month - a Terrier and these three: A Model 28, the Model 12 of this thread, and a British Service Revolver.
Time to stop adding to the herd and start getting ready for Christmas.

Congrats!
I used to run into a Salt Lake City P. D. bicycle-mounted patrolman who carried one when their department gun was the Model 64.. He trimmed weight from his gear anywhere he could, had aluminum cuffs, too.
