Are these really J frame grips?
I bought a set of advertised as round butt J frame grips on eBay to go on my Model 36.
When I received them today they were...well, slightly larger than my J frame kind of like the sun is slightly larger than a marble. Well, maybe not that dramatic a difference
I sent a note to the seller and he said, "The j frame comes in many different sizes. I prob a dozen or two all different,.
So, I am here to ask the experts: Are these J frame grips?
Thank you!

Go to return request.
Check "item not as described". Do NOT check the box that indicates "does not fit".
Seller will be required to pay for return shipping. You will get a full refund and be out not a penny.

That just gives you an excuse to go out and buy a round butt K frame to go with those grips (or is it stocks?).

No way Jose. "J" frames of that era either came as round butt or square butt. I have never heard "The j frame comes in many different sizes. I prob a dozen or two all different." There was the smaller "I" frame and the "Improved I" frame, which if I recall correctly was slightly larger than the "I" frame but about the same size as the "J" frame. Perhaps a more knowledgeable member can comment further. hardcase60

The seller is wrong about "many different sizes." And those are NOT j-frame grips. He did not sell you what he described.

WOW!!! Must be for the legendary, one-off, experimental Super Target M36 flat-latch that no one has been able to track down!
A real collectors item. Must be worth one large bag of greenbacks.
Lucky you.

Why, certainly those are J frame grips. Your gun has shrunk. Probably from leaving the revolver in a closet for too many years. The same thing happens to my clothes. The longer I leave them in the closet, the more they shrink. Most of my clothes that are over 30-40 years are impossible to get into (my Army uniform for example). I suspect your gun is more than 30-40 years old and the newer grips just can't possibly fit onto the gun anymore.
You'll be wise the take that into account the next time you order stuff.
God bless,
Birdgun

Frank,
As a side note, to be period correct the stocks for that "shrunken" LOL, flat latch may have been the checkered diamond magnas. If you post the first four or five of the serial number then we can make sure and perhaps a member can point you a good direction. hardcase60

Frank,
I buy gun parts on ebay as well. I like the sellers have the disclaimer in their description..."parts may need to be fitted by a qualified gunsmith". You just need to get those grips properly fitted. BTW, I'm looking for a set of k frame rb grips...

They look about right. You won't know until you take it to the range and shoot a few hundred rounds. Nothing is perfect, don't be so picky.
