Model 66 with new Culina combats
It was asked in another thread, have you ever bought a gun for the grips? Well I think I bought this 66 no dash so I could shoot the heck out of it with these Culina combats that just arrived today.
As with most guns that I shoot a lot, the beautiful original targets are tucked away in the box. First backyard shooting session will be tomorrow afternoon and I can't wait!

Those look great!
I love the look of Culina Grips as well. I have put many of their grips on my Smith's to dress them up...and dress them up it does. John does a tremendous finish and has great wood selection.

These are Royal Walnut and Jennifer said that their supply is running out and may be hard to get in the future. Just love the fiddleback lines.

I wonder if they make the combats in a round to square conversation.

Looks like the were faithful to the factory original smooth combats, and as far as I'm concerned, that is a good thing! IMHO they are the best, most comfortable factory grips ever made for the K-frame. Shark Bait, it shouldn't be too great a challenge to make such grips... it wouldn't hurt to ask!

Don't know. I have a couple of their RB combats but this is my first set of SB combats and I have to say that they fit my hand like a glove. For me, a much better fit than the RB's (I have both K and N frame RB's).

Put 100 rounds through it this afternoon and I must say that this is probably the smoothest shooting configuration that I own. The grips and the balance of the 4" M66 may move it to "most favored status". Shot a few different guns with my son and just kept coming back to it.

I put some regular S&W finger groove targets on a 67 that I got recently. I am in total agreement about the shooting qualities of the combo.

Agree the combats are the most comfortable stocks. And the grain pattern on yours is exquisite Kalamazoo! Nice!

I think he does. I know he makes both round and square butt combats. He is on Facebook, and has a website. Search Culina LLC. And of course he is a member here, and sometimes posts in the accessories classifieds.

Those grips are really sweet. I have a 4 inch 66-1, and may have to look into a set. I agree that the finger grove grips fit my hand better and I shoot tighter groups with them. For some reason this style grip dramatically reduces felt recoil.

Just wondering about your 66 ND - I have a 66 ND and it has the solid SS front as well as the SS rear sight - which I see yours had the red inset front and blued rear. I thought ALL 66 NDs had the solid front and SS rear unless changed to blue and the front modified.

Only the early ones had SS sights then they changed to the red insert front and blued rear. I have a 2 1/2" and 4" 66 NDs and both are this way.

I love your Model 66 and I love the Grips.
If anyone is on the Fence about John Culina's Finger Groove Combats, I can also enthusiastically recommend them, or any of his grips.
I have a set in Bubinga on my 586.
I finally shot the 586 and it is the Cat's Meow. I shot it better than my high end 1911s a few days ago.
The grips felt Perfect, absolutely perfect.
And of course I must include pics, I don't want to upset anyone.

Conversion Combat Grips - Yes
Yes, we do make conversion combat grips. At this time, K/L-Round conversion combats and K/L-Square combat grips are special order only as John has to convert them from N-frame grips. They have the same profile as the square butt grips.
