Well, Jon, ballpark will be 1963-65.
The catalog is very vague on the early j frames.
Hopefully someone can give you a closer date.

Welcome aboard from Wyoming, Jon.
Does your Chiefs Special have a flat latch and diamonds around the grip escutcheon, like the one in the photo? Yours might have a round butt instead of the square butt in the photo.

A Model 36 with serial # 353801 shipped in September, 1964, so that should give you a pretty close ballpark estimate. Yours should have shipped wearing diamond stocks and the flat latch (third style).

Most likely September 1964. Your serial number is in the middle of serveral in my database, that shipped then. Only a letter would tell you for certain. Pics would be nice!

If it was stainless, it was not a Model 36, but a Model 60. To make this certain, we know that the R prefix was not used on the Model 36, carbon steel Chiefs Special.
R208xxx would be from 1978.
Yes, that was the actual length. However, these were listed as a 2" barrel. 2" is the nominal length, but they rarely if ever actually measured 2".
