Default Ft. Worth Gun Show

Crossed another Smith off my long list today at the gun show. It's a nice 4" Model 66-1. I've been looking for one for a couple of years and finally found one at a reasonable price in good shape. It came with Pachmayr Gripper grips on it but like the fit of the old Presentation grips. They should work fine until I can get some proper Magnas and maybe a Tyler-T. The pistol should work great for a backpack/knock around the ranch gun.

Nice find. That's the model I started with in my Law Enforcement career back in 1979. Wish I had it back. Wasn't able to make the show this weekend but hoping be at the Dallas show next month, maybe.....

Attsa nice un! Be aware it most likely originally shipped with target stocks, if you want to restore it properly.

I've got a few pairs of the GA target stocks floating around but I never liked the looks of the target stocks on the 4" guns. I want it to be a small, pack-able gun. If I need to do extended shooting or target work, I'll reach for its brother, a 6" Model 19-4, or bring out the 8 3/8" Model 27-2.

And I took them off of my M-66-3 and use the Pachmayrs like in his photos.

The gun handles much better and seems to recoil less.

I've used that setup since 1990 and feel my M-66 is the best all-round revolver, provided that use of full.357 loads is modest.

I bought a police trade-in no dash Model 66 back in the late '80s IIRC, and the best all around grips I ever put on it were the factory made smooth combat finger groove style. Not too big to pack, but plenty to hold onto. Of course I like these grips on all K-frames of this vintage.
