Default Look -db- ! HKS 10B speedloader from 1978

-db- and I may be the only ones to enjoy this.

I took pictures of my solitary 1978 vintage HKS 10B speedloader for a young friend who enjoys picking up ancient history from the old guys, so might as well post them here too.

The 10B has a dual action knob. Turning the knob will release the cartridges as with any other HKS loader but the cam action knob will also release with a straight down push. Or, as the ad says, "WHAM-O!."

Unlike other push release loaders, the turning cam requires the cylinder to be held, as with any other HKS.

More complicated - and likely more fragile - than the 10A, it quickly disappeared from the market.

Default Look -db- ! HKS 10B speedloader from 1978

Wow I have never even heard of the 10B. I still have my 10 and 10A speed loaders from 1973. The 10 allowed cartridges to wiggle abit. The 10A prevented any wiggle.

Didn't realize HKS loaders were that old.

All mine are new.

If I remember right I was not impressed with the push to release (still not) feature of the B model and did not purchase any. Sorta wish I did now that I'm a lot older and would appreciate the novelty of it, thanks for posting it!

I think all the ones I had were the 10A style.

I've always had a bit of trouble with all of the HKS loaders, starting with a pair I bought for my Model 29 back about 1978 or 79. As I got into PPC I came to appreciate the Jet Loader design that was available for my heavy barreled K-frame PPC gun, and only recently have gone back and cultivated the skills required to use the HKS loaders on revolvers for which the Jet-style are unavailable. I have to say, all of the HKS loaders still seem clumsy to me, and if you have to anchor the 10-B to the cylinder with one hand while manipulating it with the other, I would still be unimpressed. JMHO, of course... YMMV.

While most of my loaders are HKS I also had not learned of the 10B. Thanks for posting about it.

My unusual HKS loader has a gold anodized aluminum body. Other wise it looks like a 10M. It is marked for Pythons. I bought it as a novelty at a gun show. I assumed it is an early one.

Here's a 1976 ad for the original 10M promoting the shock absorber feature of the spring loaded ball bearing.

I'd guess a couple of years earlier for the first appearance.

I don't remember for certain when I bought my first HKS 10, but I'm pretty sure it was maybe 1975. Coulda been 1976? I do know that the first one I saw made me spend the money just to see if it worked, and it did! I still have a few 10's and several 10-A's. Most of mine got lots of repetitions during firearms training sessions as well as some PPC competitions. A couple or three were carried in coat or vest pockets during cooler/cold weather on duty, and at least one was always riding in the cockpit of my patrol unit. Couldn't carry them on my Sam Browne belt. Not uniform dress! Every one of my HKS loaders still works like a charm and truthfully feel just about like they did when new. They have always been very dependable for me!

But!, this is my first time to hear about the Model 10-B. I am surprised to find that it was once available. But then again, I'm always finding out something that I never knew about! SG-688, I definitely enjoyed reading your posts and the ones that followed. I'll have to be on the lookout for one myself. But in all the years of shopping for police gear in stores and in catalogs, as well as being exposed to most "new" things that became available since the 60's, I have never seen one. That includes buying quite a few at gun shows, etc. Thanks for enlightening all of us, especially with the photos!!!

PS: I'd have probably bought one of these to try, but from what I see and hear about them here, I'd have probably liked the 10-A and the 10 best. Never had one of them to open on their own for me.
