Default Price check K38 Model 15-3

What would be a reasonable selling price for a 1969 Model 15-3 2 inch K frame 38, blued. I'm not familiar with grading values but its in great condition since I bought it in 1977 its had maybe 250 rounds thru it.

Do you still have the box it came in? As new in the box - $650, Excellent condition (which yours appears to be) - $500. Depending on where you're located, how bad someone wants it and etc., it could go higher.

WELCOME to the FORUM! It looks like a beauty from the picture! I was looking for 1 myself for around a year. Gave up. They tend to be sought after. Think about it before you sell. Only my opinion. Bob

Default Yep

Still have the box. Never get to shoot it even tho I'm in the country. Wife, dog and horses hate the noise. Not getting any younger and my girls have zero interest.

If your Model 15-3 came in that box and the serial numbers match, it was made in 1977, not 1969. 8K numbers from 1977 ran from 8K80001 to 8K99999.

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3d and 4th Editions show all the 8K numbers falling in 1975. However, this has proven to be inaccurate. The 8K numbers actually spanned three years. Here is the breakdown:

1975: 8K1 - 8K20763
1976: 8K20764 - 8K80000
1977: 8K80001 - 8K99999

I have been looking for one of those to so I can complete my combat masterpiece collection. In Oregon in that condition would be $600 to $700 range if you can find one with a 2".

Of course, I finally find a nice 15-3 snub, and I don't have the money to get it.
Just my luck.

Question. Never sold one online before where the buyer wasn't local (I'm in NC). How much problem is it?

Within your own state you can usually transfer with a bill of sale, but be sure to check your state specific laws. Between states you must have the handgun transferred from an FFL to another FFL in the receiving state. This normally results in costs on both end for seller and buyer. I am fortunate to have a friend FFL that will ship for me for just the shipping costs for an "occasional" sale. Most places the costs are from $20 to $50 plus shipping costs on either end.

From looking at the Catalog, I would agree with 1975. 1977 says 10K0001-24K9999. Edit to add: I didn't see Jack's post regarding the discrepancy in the Catalog. I'm sure his information is correct.

Cool

When in comes to blued Smith and Wesson revolvers, It would seem today there was a large showing of
model 15 and model 19 guns at the Ohio Gun Collectors Association , sure there there were other
models of smiths but in my and my friends estimation folks were bringing them out of there sock drawer
from home. As for prices of the 15's what I noticed was asking prices of $500 to the 650 dollar range,
and of course the 19 asking prices as high as $775 naturally All dependent upon condition. One other
observation was a low showing of nice 10's and 13's.

I'm not sure about that. Correct that interstate transfers must be received by an FFL, but my guy will accept out of state shipments from a non-FFL. However, it is usually cheaper for an FFL to ship than for a private citizen. My state does not require a bill of sale or other paperwork for a face to face transaction. H Richard gives good advice reference checking your state laws
