Default Model 13 with 3 inch barrel

Good evening gentlemen.....I'm a new member from Southern California....please don't hold that against me. I'm looking for a Model 13 with a 3 inch barrel. Can any members from California direct me to a internet search in an attempt to locate my holy grail. I've tried Armslist and Calguns and missed one by one day. Thank you

Default 13

Welcome to the forum. I would also like to find a 3"model 13 and have been looking. Unfortunately due to them being off roster you cannot import one from out of state. They eliminated the single action exemption so that doesn't work anymore. If you have relatives out of state they may be able to buy one and sell or gift it to you, but check with an FFL first. I do have a couple of 3" model 65s though. Calguns, Armslist, and gun shows are your best bet. Also if you have an LGS you like let them know you're looking. You also might check the auction sites like Gun Broker, etc. I think you can narrow the search to California. I'm in Northern California so not your competition, lol. Good luck with your search!

Also, when you find one be prepared to drive, twice, as off roster guns cannot be shipped and 13s are too new to be C&R.

Welcome from the Central Valley of California. It is getting really difficult to find off roster guns here but do not give up.

Max, welcome to the forum.

You might want to put an advertisement in the WTB section of this forum, be sure to note you are in Ca.

I THINK if you are active duty L/E you can have off the roster guns shipped to your FFL from out of state.

Good Luck

Thank you all for the welcome and advise. I really enjoy the pictures of handguns the other members have.

Bear, I retired last year after 30. I never thought of buying a classic Smith before retirement. It was always semi-autos. I really regret that now.

Again thank you gentlemen

Hi Max Rules:

Welcome to the Forum. I'm from the Great State of Texas, so I can't help you with your question. I did want to show you some eye candy of 2/3 of my 3.0 inch barreled K-frames (a 64-3, a 13-3, and a 65-3 no, it wasn't planned that way, it's just the way they came to me). The 3.0 inch barreled K-frames are a delight to shoot. They are out there, but very hard to find. If you find one in good condition, and reasonably priced, don't hesitate on the purchase are it will be gone before you know it.

Good luck,

Dave

I've got a 2 1/2" Model 19, a 2 1/2" Model 66, and a 2" Model 15 as well as a 3" Model 13... What I'm looking for now is a 2" Model 10. We're all on a quest of some sort. Good luck.

Welcome to the FORUM! As mentioned, you can try to find 1 here. I have had decent results finding nice guns on Gun Broker, and Guns America. You never know though. Good luck on your hunt! Bob

There are always a few on gunbroker.

You'll pay $$$$.

And then you got to get them to ship to CA.

Good luck.

Bragger!!! Ha. I'm from The Lone Star state as well and just can't imagine checking a roster only to find an evil model 13 on that list. Good looking 3" cousins.

I bought a blue 3" M13 new in 1984. They were hard to come by as they were FBI issue at the time. I gave it to my then Fiancee'. She declined to sell it back to me wen we went our separate ways.
I consoled myself by buying a 3" M66-2 when it came my way.

Welcome to the Forum. When you least expect it, one will come along. I hope the one you missed out on wasn't from Kentucky. Fortunately, I got that one this past Sunday.
Good luck in your search.

Patience is required to get what exactly what you want at a price you are comfortable with. Diligence is also required so you don't miss out when your patience finally pays off.

The only thing that supersedes patience is luck.

Just hang in there and keep searching. Eventually the gun for you will come along.

Default Model 13 with 3 inch barrel

They come along few and far between, but when they do they sure are nice..........

I brought this one home today from the local gun show. I could not resist for 700 dollars. Not a steal but I didn’t get robbed either.

The twins.....

Mine was issued in 1984 and I bought it when we changed guns in 1988. I don't believe I've seen another one in this area for sale.

They are fantastic shooters and it was probably the best carry gun my agency issued. Some did not like it because it replaced our Model 66-2 four inch which replaced a Model 66-1 2 1/2 inch and they did not like having to take care of a blued gun.

We did have some issued with barrels not being installed straight, but mine was OK. Those that had problems were "fixed" by slapping the barrels on a lead bar. Since they have fixed sights the barrel has to be moved in the frame to adjust it.

I saw my first 3.0 inch barreled Model 13 in early 1975. The gun store owner told me that the famed gunsmith Jim Clark was a friend of his, and if I bought the piece, he'd have Mr. Clark do an action job for free. Unfortunately, I was a poor private in the Army, and couldn't afford a cap gun. It would take nearly 40 years later that I found a Model 64-3 with a 3.0 inch long barrel at a local gunstore. I bought it thinking that was the closest I was ever going to get to my Model 13. A few months later, I found the Model 13-3 at a local gun show, and traded a Model 4006 in great condition, with box and tools, and $100.00 for it (I still think I came out ahead in that trade). A few months after that, I found the Model 65-3 listed here for sale by a Forum member. I'm really happy with my 3.0 inch barreled K-frames. The only thing left for me to dream and lust over is a 3.0 inch barreled Model 65 Ladysmith. By the way, in case you didn't already know this, the Model 13 with 3.0 inch long barrel was the last revolver issued by the FBI to its agents. The Model 65 with 3.0 inch long barrel was the last revolver issued by the DEA to its agents.

Good luck,

Dave

I was at the right place at the right time on a GB auction when nobody was paying attention and got my 3" nickel M13-3 for a decent price, it goes well with my 3" M64

I'm way north of you in CA. and I'll keep an eye on Calguns to give you an extra pair of eyes finding one. But of course it has to be down south. I would make bi weekly trips to various gun shops around you. But prices are higher here since we all have to fight over the ever shrinking pool of various guns. Not me, though because I already found one.

All those 13's are great looking guns. RJM I've seen several 13's on Gunbroker but they won't ship to California. Wyatt, thank you for the assist. If you see one in your area let me know. A good reason for a road trip.
