Hurricane Irma Model 36 "Chief's Special"
http://www.gunbroker.com/item/691680478
To add to my humble collection of vintage S&W revolvers, this morning I won a bid on GunBroker (see link above) for a S&W Model 36 "Chief's Special." The seller is in Davie, Florida, between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, right in the bull's eye of the approaching Hurricane Irma. Not surprisingly, I have not been able to contact the seller today. I strongly suspect they have more pressing issues to deal with---like an approaching monster storm. I don't expect delivery of the revolver any time soon. However, I have sent the seller my credit card payment and my FFL contact has sent his FFL. But more importantly, I'm sending up my prayers for him, his family, his employees and their families. This hurricane is a destructive killer.
Please join me with prayers up for all those affected by these deadly storms.
God bless,
Birdgun

Your thoughts are in the right place. It is getting rare to find folks with more concern for others welfare/safety than their own minor personal interest over small matters. I have friends and family members in the Florida. It will be a tough time for Florida as it was for Texas.

Good old fashioned trust and understanding. Something we don't see enough of any longer.

I have not received the Chief's Special yet. I did receive an email from the seller off of his cell phone on Thursday, 14 Sept. He apologized and said they were still working to get power and to get back up and running. I thanked him, told him I understood, and let him know that they were all still in my ongoing prayers for their well being during these trying times.

Birdgun, I also won an auction on GB the night (Sunday) that hurricane Irma was moving up the coast of Florida on what looks like a pretty nice S&W 15-2 4" barrel and I thought to myself what I had done with that devastating hurricane tearing up Florida and at the time there was already hundreds of thousands of people without power. Fortunately I got in touch with the seller the next morning by cell phone and he said Irma passed through their area around midnight and power was down. He was located at Inverness, Florida about middle ways of the state and a little south of Daytona Beach. Early Monday morning I sent a Postal Money order for the gun and sent the seller an email. I was notified
Friday evening payment was received and the gun was shipped and sent me a tracking number with expected delivery on Tuesday the 19th. I have already tracked the gun to leaving Memphis, TN today at about 4 pm. I was real concerned with all the damage Irma was causing and when the confirmation shipping email came to me with tracking he commented that they had power back and things were still a mess but the whole state of Florida suffered one heck of a hurricane and some peoples lives will never get back to normal.
Congratulations on that nice S&W 36 and it looks real nice.

Inverness is south of me on the WEST coast. Daytona is on the East coast. Inverness and communities there escaped the harshness areas nearby received.

Happy ending for all.
I received my Hurricane Irma Model 36 (no dash) Chief's Special (circa 1966-67) yesterday evening, Thursday, Sept 21. The seller shipped it out on Tuesday, Sept 19. Unbeknownst to me, it came with its original box. I am pleased!

Birdgun:
That's a great story, and a beautiful Chief!! Almost the same thing just happened to me, but from the Houston area, and Harvey. I won the bid right as the storm was approaching, and although there was a slight delay, the seller was great!! Located right outside of Houston.
Best Regards, Les
