Default New Acquisition Mod 36 3" in Nickel

Greetings,

I am seeking your learned thoughts on this little J Frame Jewell.

I am thinking that I may have paid a bit to much for this model 36 ($499) but I could just not stop thinking of it laying there in that cold loveless case.

The plating is flawless and it appears possibly unfired. It came with a nice leather belt holster but no box or paper work.

From what I was told this was literally a little old lady's sock drawer pistol. The model is 36 no dash and serial is J226***

Please comment your opinions.

My thought, $499 in that configuration with a nice basket holster,
about spot on retail.

It will only go up in value. Plus that looks like an original Roys pancake holster or a Strong Holster copy.

I have no use for a 3" Chiefs Special and cannot understand the reasoning for it, but I would also have been unable to leave that gun in the showcase. The price you paid is fair IMO if the condition is as you describe. Enjoy your new gun.

Great looking 36 and the gun with holster in that condition is a decent buy. I have seen many a 36 sold for $500 that weren't as nice as yours.
It sure is eye candy.

Years ago, I bought a 36-10, 3" heavy barrel, in nickel....a Horton gun that was one of 226...I paid $799.00 to get the one in my special Serial#..0126.

To add to my earlier post, I've bought more than one gun simply to prevent someone else who would not appreciate it from getting it. Your new gun would fall in that category. You gotta appreciate it so I do not regret missing it!

Beautiful little gun - you'll enjoy it and I don't think you overpaid.

I have its twin from 1976 (if memory serves me New Acquisition Mod 36 3" in Nickel).

The SWSC, 4th Edition put your serial number in the 1973 - 1974 range and my best guess most likely mid 1974. Based on the condition reflected in the pics plus a Roy's holster you did good. enjoy, hardcase60

Shoot the heck out of it. 3" barrel is VERY accurate and it doesn't even have a rear site. Great balance, very little recoil or jump. ENJOY IT!!!!!

You did very well from my perch. That's gorgeous!

Welcome aboard from Wyoming.

I haven't ventured into the nickel Chiefs yet. One of these days I might run out of blue or black ones to buy (probably not), and might take the plunge.

Slàinte,

Bob

I wouldn't have been able to resist that gun at that price. I would have knowingly, willfully, but not happily weathered the wrath of the wife on that one, with only the comeback of: Look at how pretty it is.

Congrats, enjoy, and shoot the hell out of it.

If I had any money I'd have been on that like a sixteen-year-old boy on a pizza buffet.

Very nice. I have it’s baby sister, a 36-1 from 1977. I would say that you got a decent buy. I paid $450 for my -1 4 years ago in about the same condition with a home make holster.
