This serial number dates most likely to 1963. Hope this helps. Steve

You've got a great revolver. It was the prototype for the Model 13 .357 Magnum Military & Police Heavy Barrel. I have a 10-3 and a 10-8 and they both a very nice shooters.

Model 10-3 (1962)

Model 13-2 (1979)

Model 10-8 (1981)

The 10-6 remains on my bucket list.

As you can see the Model 10 heavy barrel and the Model 13 look a lot alike.

Very nice... and being that it was your dad's service weapon, makes it a very special revolver.

I have a Model 10-8 bull barrel that I just acquired. They are great shooters.

Here, at left, is my S&W 10-6 with bull barrel. One of my favorites.
2nd from left, Lawrence holster, Lawrence belt & Buck knife.
3rd from left, Eubanks holster, Lawrence belt & Marbles knife.
4th from left Heiser 757 holster, Culver belt & Bear knife.
5th from left Bucheimer Patrolman rig. Two former NYPD officers have
told me this is the rig, or one much like what Jim Cirillo used to carry
his M&P (Model 10) with bull barrel. He used it to kill up to 19 thugs
while on the Stake Out Squad.

The 10-6 was my NYPD duty weapon issued to me in February 1966 at a cost of $45.It served me well for near 20 years.

Hey, StakeOut, even the used ones are going for more than that today!
(You likely already knew that...)

Your revolver is probably 1963 vintage. I have one with SN C801723 which was vintage 1965.

It was a Mobile, AL Law Enforcement trade-in and was from their SWAT unit.
