Just bought this 10-6 at auction. All orig. including box and oil paper. It's been shot,but very very little. Orig. owner paid $71.50, in 1967, I had to pay $450. May keep this one pristine, have several to shoot. Question is, should I look for an instruction manual,and cleaning kit? From a collectors view,how important are they? It's got non diamond magnas, C913xxx..Any opinions and info would help me here.Thank you all.....

I love Model 10s, I have a number of them, but they made so many I don't even think of them as collectibles, per se, except as they fit into my personal S&W collection. But if you want it pristine and as collectible as possible then, yes, by all means get the whole kit and caboodle.

My Model 10-6 was purchased from the NYPD Equipment Bureau in early 1966 for the grand sum of $45.It had diamond magna service grips and was in a 2 piece blue cardboard box with papers and cleaning kit.

S&W head gunsmith Archie Dubia did an action job on it while I was on a factory visit.I also had a custom made fixed bar rear sight attached for nicer sight picture and change point of impact.

The 10-6 saved my bacon several times.

Sorry I didn't keep it but a young range officer pleaded with me for it at my retirement.

That looks like a great looking acquisition. It surely does look like a well taken care of gun. However, and not anything against the piece, there is some slight wear and handling. So I would probably put it to use. Let us know how it shoots if do.

I tend toward iPac's opinion. These are simply too common to have any chance of turning into desirable collector pieces anytime in the next several decades. If you had one NIB with all its original stuff, that'd be one thing. But unless you for yourself enjoy having the set complete, don't expect to get any noticable appreciation from spending money to add non-original stuff.

Thank you all, and I agree that even NIB,most model 10's will never be rare revolvers. This one is a beauty and I will enjoy it the rest of my life! In my opinion, this pinned barrel beauty,at a little more than half the price of a new "classic" was a steal !!!! sweet workmanship!

You'd need to weigh the cost of finding and buying a proper period manual and tool kit against what it's going to add to the value of the gun. Unless of course your doing it for fun then all logic is put aside :-)

I had the dilemma with a 2" unfired 10-5 from 1966, in box. I thought about not shooting it after I bought it. It last about 3 days. I've shot the snot out of that thing the past month or so. I think I shoot it more accurately than its 4" 10-5 cousin. I think cause of the RB frame.

That is one pretty 10-6. Nicely done.

I just got one myself the other day and took that need off of my bucket list.
