Does anyone know that back in the day of 2 pic. blue factory boxes: Say I ordered a 6" model 28-2 and wanted the Target Stocks instead of Magnas. The Catalog shows this option. Would they choose a wider box to ship the gun in since the normal 28-2 box is not big/wide enough for the 6" gun with TS to fit into. Early 28-2 boxes were imprinted as Highway Patrolman 6 inch barrel. Hard to believe they would have a separate box for the TS Highway Patrolman.
Seems I read somewhere they used the regular HP box and layed the TS inside, but not on the gun. This makes sense if the number of TS HP was low compared to Magna HPs.

Anyone have any ideas..or have an older 28-2 with correct box AND target stock option. Thinking 60's vintage HP.

I have two 28-2's NIB, one came with magnas and the other targets. So YES, the 28-2's that came from the factory with target stocks did indeed come in a wider box.

Does the wider box have the Highway Patrolman and 6" printed on the box..What age are your 28-2's.

Both mine are 4"and that's how the boxes are marked. One gun is from 1975, the other 1978. The target grip box is the same size as the magna one only it's a little wider.

I've got 2 K-38s one with targets and one with Magnas. The TS does have a wider box than the Magna M-14. I've seen many handguns with target sold as a factory option that wouldn't fit in the box they were giving. Most have the stocks add by a previous owner.
