Default Buddy is selling a 28-2, wondering approximate value

Like the title says, my buddy is selling this revolver. He told me to name a price, I'd like to not totally gouge him.

Not the original finish and not well taken care of. Bead blasted? And how are the internals, bore, lock up and timing? I wouldn't go any higher than $300 on that one.

I would say $250 at most long as it functions good.

Do yourself and your buddy a favor and ask him how much he'll pay you to take it. If he is the one responsible for letting the gun get in that condition then the fee goes up. Rant over, I'm with daddio202 not over $250.00 and you are being kind. hardcase60

Welcome! It appears to have either a satin nickel or hard chrome finish; I would guess the former as hard chrome shouldn't rust like the photos show.

If it is a mechanically sound N frame .357 it would be hard to go wrong at $300-350, depending on whether you plan on paying for a(nother) refinish, in which case I would factor that in to your offer.

That is a shooter you throw under the truck seat so $250 tops. That is if it is even in good shooter condition otherwise I would pass on it. I don't care for spare parts guns.

Pull the grips and take a look. If the exterior looks this bad, the hidden area may be worse...

What a poor, old abused lady. Rescue her for $250 and shoot
her. Do not spend a dime to re-finish. Just clean up and shoot.
If the bore and chambers are pitted, just pass. Mike

Looks to me like something is going on with the rear sight raised up like it is.
If the gun is tight and no pits in the bore I'd go $275 but no more. That is if you want a low condition shooter.
And I would try to get it for a lot less, say around $150.

It would strictly depend on the mechanics condition. If it is tight, and has no shooting deficiencies, I'd agree to $250, but if it has any mechanical difficulties, walk away.

The really sad thing is the fact that cleaned up with those same grips on it the gun would most likely sell for well over $400 on Gunbroker.

Thanks guys. He inherited it and isn't fond of it. We put 50-100 rounds through it together and it shoots well. Someone said something about the back sight, it looks like there might be a piece missing underneath it for the elevation screw to grab, the elevation screw just spins right now. My first thought was $250 to have fun with. Didn't want to gouge him, but looks like I was on target (ha,ha).

I'd have to shoot it first. If it functions and is reasonably accurate I might do $300. If there are any mechanical issues the price would drop very quickly.

It could be a tack driver and a real great gun, or a total dog.

Tough crowd. If the internals match the exterior I'd simply pass. If it's reasonably tight and w/o pitting etc then I'd be happy to put $300-350 into it for a friend, maybe a bit more depending on the friend. If it's a tack driver w/ a great trigger 400 or so, and I'd spend some time reading up on "wabi" to put myself in the proper mindset

Well i think you know it might be a good deal at the right price...see what his thoughts are and i agree that 250 is what i would be comfortable with as long as there is no other problems...God Bless,John

We have a local gun distributor around here. They have a brick and mortar presence and a large online business. That gun would be in their $189.99 box. I would gladly snap it up for $189.99. I would walk at $200.

I would pay you $100 for the stocks. Shoot me a PM if interested ... even if you don't buy it right away, keep me in mind.

"I'd like to not totally gouge him. "
It seems like the consensus is $250, but I think that is generous. I the spirit of the quote above, I think $200 is more like it, stocks and all. It is such a dog even I would have to have it refinished, and that can get pricey.

It's not hard chrome with that rust on it!. It's either bare metal polished and rusted or rusted nickle or that **** that Colt used, something like electroless nickle.

$250 if it's in decent mechanical shape. With a little work, it can be made to look a lot better. I'm guessing it was put into a holster and left there a long time. A friend bought a NIB looking nickel (factory) 19 about 15 years ago, and made the mistake of leaving it in the holster for a couple of years. The left side of it is a mess. He didn't know not to leave a gun in a leather holster. He does now.
