I really like model 14's and do not have one with the full lug. At the store I noticed a 14-7 in pretty good shape stamped with CDC in the yoke area. They have the box also. Asking price is $450 and is known for absolutely no negotiating, they actually get upset if you offer up a different price. So knowing from my searches here that not too many of the 14-6 and 14-7 models were made in the late 90's if the price is too high. Seems to me he is usually right on at retail price. He also had a 1950 pre- model 10 with 6 inch barrel and C 1xxxxxx serial number in carried but pretty nice original condition with the non relieved diamond magnas for $395. I am torn between the 2 guns as the pre model 10 has no box or anything else. His third gun at $595 was a 66-2 with box in nice condition and rubber grips also. What direction would you all lean?

Is the 66-2 also 6" barrel?

The 66-2 shipped with wood stocks,magnas or relieved targets with silver washers.

If it were me doing the choosing I'd lean toward the Stainless Steel 38spl/357mag 66-2 but be sure to check the forcing cone if cracked before buying and shoot only 135gr or heavier bullets if you get it.I shoot mostly 158gr LSWC and 148gr HBWC ammo out of my 66-2.

If the barrels look dirty ask the shop to clean them so you can check them for problems.

Bring a copy of the revolver checklist with you when doing a gun inspection.

I somehow knew the 66-2 would be the center of attention in the group. It's a great mechanically with good forcing cone 4 inch barrel gun with box. Now remember he won't go down so your talking about $650 after taxes so it seemed a little high to me. I would definately do that amount on a 3 inch but for a 4 inch??

A 14-7 for $450 is a really great price IMHO...buy it before someone else does...

I prefer a 4" over a 6" if not for a type of competition that would have an advantage using a 6"

The 4" 66-2 is not glass beaded stainless and easy to clean after shooting.

The 66-2 can shoot 357 magnum rounds or target ammo reloads in 357 cases.Yes,it will also shoot 38spl and 38spl +P without any problems.

The other choices are good buys as is the 66-2 with original box for $595 +tax

Should you decide to sell the 4" 66-2 down the road you should have no trouble recouping your money.

Intended use of the purchase?

I never like to tell someone how to spend their money.

Which will likely increase in value the most over the time of ownership?

Which will you get the most use and enjoyment from?

I forgot intended uses. I am a collector as well as target shooter. I gather up a half dozen or so of my S&W revolvers and shoot at indoor range weekly. I h have 2 model 19's and 1 model 28 so 357 is covered though do not have a stainless version but just looked on GB they have several 66-2 with nice wooden target grips in the $400 to $500 range. So I would go there cheaper and better if I really wanted a 66. The 14-7 has been there for 2 months so I may save a few more dollars up and get that one. Seems very little interest in pre model 10.

That 14-7 with box is about $200 under priced. Grab it quick before they change their minds.

OP: What does "pretty good shape" mean? It's like saying "OK" when someone asks how you're feeling. Can mean anything. I hate to offer a possible value without a physical examination of the item, and that value only has meaning to me. Wish you well!

Sorry about being so vague in my description of the 14-7. Mechanically it is perfect and only some very light handling marks. Looks to be never carried and only shot a little. I am going to ask to see box when I go back to make sure its the matching box for that gun.

Still kicking myself for passing up at various times a 6" bbl Model 10 NIB, a minty Model 14 (dash unknown), and a NIB factory engraved Model 64 in wooden box. Prices were WAY more reasonable 5-6 years ago also. Oh well..

I would guess it to be more along the lines of a $750 gun, maybe more with the original box. There is a great post here about the history of the gun's development and production. Either as a collecting or target gun I don't think you can go wrong at $450.
