Looking at 18-3 at las
I found a 18-3 at local gun shop. I do not have pics as yet but gun is in very good condition with original box, tools, manual, and smith wax paper. Serial k887673. I was hoping someone could lead my in the right direction on price, asking 800.00. Thanks for any response.

I think $800 may be a little high, but not too much. I would reach for my wallet around $675 to $700.

Model 18-3 .22 Combat Masterpiece from 1969. With box and accessories, $800 isn't too far out of line, if at all. These revolvers are growing in popularity and no more of them will ever be made.
If you have a hankering for a .22 Combat Masterpiece and you can afford it, I doubt you will be sorry if you buy it.

I passed on a nice one with box at a gun show a couple of years ago at $750 and have regretted it since then as I have never found a nice one in that price range again.
I would work on getting it if I was you.

I bought an 18-3 in the St. Louis area back in June, really nice shape, no box nothing but the gun $570...that box and tools ect. makes it special. There just aren't any around to pick from..I will tell you this, they're sweet!

It sounds like you have what is considered a LNIB example, or like new in the box.
If that's the true, then $800 probably isn't too bad. Where else can you find a practically brand new model 18 in original packaging? If it was really made in '69 it's getting kind of old.
If I wanted one, I would consider it.

I think there is some wiggle room on the price but 750 would be probably be it . I'll be heading back over there in an hour I'll let you guys know.

I think at $750 and having the box, tools, and wax paper would be a no brainer for me. Assuming the condition is liked stated above. I haven't seen many locally for sale. And almost all were closer to $800 or more. I wouldn't sell my 18-4 for $750. That's just my opinion, and we all know what opinions are. Good luck either way.

What he said... even if price is a little high.
If that's the tagged price though, I think $700-750 would be feasible unless a consigned gun, etc.
Good luck and post pics once you get it home.

I'm in one of those moods so I'll throw this out there. If you get it for $750 or less and it's how you described it, I'll give you your money back for it (USPS shipped to Okla) if you don't want it.
ETA:
And I need another M18 like another hole in my head...

I was looking too
The only early MDL 18's I've seen were online. Gun probers have a few listed, I was concerned about the return policy of some of the sellers and the fact that I really like to have my hot little hands on something before I lay out that kinda money.
I believe that for me, and it was in THAT condition, I'd have tried to get it for less but would have paid that to get it.
If I see one locally I'll take a look even though I'm not in the market for another .22 LR revolver at the moment.
Good luck w/ your decision and have fun.
May I ask, what barrel length?

Barrel length 4". I went back and bought it, I traded a 1938 Colt Police Positive and 200.00, I'm happy with the deal. Pics to follow.

I was thinking you may have passed on the 18-3 I bought in Roanoke from Clarks a couple years ago,,,
but the price was way less than $750,,, and mine came in a blue, mis-labeled plastic box,,,

Congratulations sir!! Not knowing what you had in the Colt or knowing anything about that model, IMHO you did good. All that counts is if you are happy with the swap and since the 18-3 is now yours that would appear to be the case. Of course we want to see the pics. regards, hardcase60

Not that one but have been checking Clarks on a regular basis for one. The guy at the show used to have the Firearms Emporium. $750 was his bottom dollar on it.

I just bought an 18-3 safe queen, no box or docs in 99% condition for $800 and I feel blessed that I was able to buy it.
Living in the Formerly Great State of California, our prices are higher, we have a list of approved guns that disallows out of State buying of anything not on the list - which is everything.
Enjoy that roscoe!

I bought a couple guns from Firearms Emporium,, including my Ruger Single Six,,,
I think he made more $$ at shows than the store for a long time,,
the store was just his warehouse,, and a place to listen to Rush Limbaugh!!

Getting out of the game, I recently sold 4 k-22's, 3-17's and an 18, using an FFL at VA gun shows to do the leg work for me. I did not get anywhere near what seem to be the going prices but also had no stress or hassle and probably at least broke even. My stuff was not considered "collectable" and this 18 has all the goodies, so it is probably worth close to the asking price. You are right, gmborkovic, we are dinosaurs.

Nice! $800 doesn't buy much of anything these days. There are good deals to be found, but like nice vintage Smiths, they are getting harder to find. In most of the country, that's a decent deal.

Nice Combat Masterpiece. What is the S&W medallion with string attached in the box tools photo? I have never seen one of these. Was it originally attached to the trigger guard?

You did good and got a fine gun. The target trigger and hammer are a sweet bonus and it's neat to see a S&W hang tag. Never saw one before.
I'm not sure I would have traded a Colt V spring action towards it though. Depends on the condition I guess, but pre-war2 isn't that interesting to me for actual shooter and duty guns so maybe.
I really like the 4" model 18s and was a little bummed to discover them after I already bought my 17-4. I like shorter barrels mostly for handiness, so the 18 really appealed to me. However, my 17 is a varmint dispatch gun and I really like the patridge front sight on a 6" barrel for an accurate sight picture. So I favor the 17s.

$800 for a model 18 in excellent to excellent plus condition w/ box and all is not out of range in my part of the woods.
I have seen nice ones W/O boxes at local gun shows for up to $850 and they were selling!!
Like several other models, I have a personal weakness for the Combat Masterpiece in .22 and own enough to keep me happy (well always looking). In my opinion, $800 may seem like a lot today but a year from now you will think nothing of it.
Life is short..........get the model 18 and its box before it is gone.
