Default Mod.36 and Mod.13 with Elk grips

Here are the pics I mentioned I would put up when time allowed. I purchased the grips from the forums own 'bigmtman'. The fit and feel are perfect for gun and me both.
I found these two revolvers in two different pawn shops. The model 36 no dash had no box, or papers. Serial # puts it between '65 and '69. It doesn't look fired much or not at all, the same as the model 13-1, serial # putting it '83ish. Neither has almost no turn line at all, and a beautiful blue S&W finish. I think the grips really look good on both. Your thoughts?

Default Mod.36 and Mod.13 with Elk grips

I have been looking for a set of elk grips but I worry that without the maker having the gun that the fit will be compromised. How much overhang is there on the back strap that I have marked. Looks like if you ran your hand over it you could feel a lip. Very nice looking though.....I just need to convince myself that I could live with that bit of lip if the grips did not sit flush up agains the grip frame......

Both are simply beautiful revolvers. The grips truly complement them both!

Actually, there is no overhand at all. It is perfectly smooth all around the frame. I never noticed how the pic out turned until you mentioned it. Some kind of smartphone quirk I suppose. I will try to get better pics. I don't know why it looks like that.

Here you go, moralem. Keep in mind I am not a pro picture taker, and I don't want to do an injustice to bgmtman. Suffice it to say, I am completely satisfied with the grips. Others on this forum can chime in too perhaps. Some of them have purchased his grips as well. Maybe this pic will help a little. (overlook the homefront.)

One more with greater detail. By the way, you can always sand to perfection if you choose. Very easy and fun to do. I've finished out wood grips from rough block and enjoyed every minute of it.

Those are beautiful parsonbw. I have a Model 13-3 with Elk stocks and added a polished black Tyler T-Grip. It has a great feel that way with the round butt and heavy 3" barrel.

Default Mod.36 and Mod.13 with Elk grips

Well I went to a Dallas gun show looking for the right magnas for my 13-3 3 inch and I found instead a set of elk grips that fit perfectly. I was worried about them not being fit to the gun but when we put them on at the show they fit like a glove. The seller also threw in a set of correct magnas. So looking for a 40 dollar set of magnas I ended up paying 165 bucks for the elk, so much for getting out cheap.

And then to make matters worse I came upon a 13-3 nickel, well I couldn’t go home without it and took that home for 700 dollars......at that point it was time to go home. Just when you think you are going to get out of this hobby cheaply enough, it drags you back in. Oh well life is short and the grandkids are hopefully going to cherish these long after grandfather is gone.

Glad you found what you wanted. You'll love the elk grips. They fit my hand perfectly. I would imagine like everything else, in a little while, they'll go up in value.

Thanks, it was just plain luck that I stumbled upon the nickel version of mine and the seller did come down off of their asking price so it was a no brainer to go home with.

Back on the forum for the first time in a week after an anniversary sojourn in Hawai'i. Those sure are pretty.

You are always better off with grips slightly too big than too small - you can't stretch them! All you need to do is sand them down to fit properly. Mark them on the gun, remove them and sand. Go slowly and fit often. Use finer and finer grit sand paper as you get closer to proper fit. An easy job and should come out perfect. Don't be afraid - just go slow and methodical.

If you are not sending the actual gun in when ordering custom grips - I'd purposely request them slightly over sized so you could custom fit them to the actual gun. Too small and you're screwed!
