Hey gents,

I picked up a couple of mint condition SW revolvers and am curious as to date and value.

29-2 Serial S3179XX
27-2 S2684XX

Both are mint condition with no imperfections in the bluing.. No boxes or paperwork.

<P>

thanks in advance.

The stocks on the 27-2 look like they could be what we call "Cokes" because of the slight palm-swell that gives them a profile similar to a coke bottle. If so, they are probably worth $500+ by themselves. Others will be along with more info for you soon.

Couple of nice ones, the 29-2 probably the $2000 - $2500 range, and the 27-2 in the $900 - $1200 range.

I would guess the model 29 in the $1200-1500 range, and the model 27 at that or a little higher if you could verify the stocks are original to the gun. They would have had to have been special ordered and only a letter of authenticity would tell you this:

Smith & Wesson Historical Foundation - Letter Process - Insuring that the rich history of Smith & Wesson will continue for generations to come

As SB noted above, those Special Target stocks are $500 + and if they are original to the gun that makes the combination worth more than a gun with standard stocks. You seem to have found a small gold mine of vintage S & Ws . Enjoy!

The 29-2 definitely dates to 1969. I have its near twin that was shipped in August 1969. I would value my 29-2 at $1,500 or so. Coke bottle stocks were phased out beginning in early 1966 so they could be original to your revolver if it was special ordered with them. Otherwise, it would have shipped with Magna stocks numbered to the revolver.

Better view of the 27-2 Grips to verify if they are coke bottle.

Sure look to be Cokes to me. A view from the rear should show the slight palm swell in each panel. If they don't have the palm swell, they are diamond targets. The checkering isn't normally cut that low on DT's though. Either way, they should also have black washers inside.

The palm swell shows in the last photo. But we already knew they were Cokes because of the extent of the checking. The difference in coverage between regular targets and Coke targets is pretty obvious, once you have seen them side by side.

Keep in mind the prices mentioned here are what a serious and knowledgeable S&W revolver man might pay, maybe. If you are a gun dealer, you may have to be willing to sit on them for quite a while before you get top dollar. The damage on the cokes will affect value.

Yes i'm a dealer and am willing to sit on them if needed but in all reality i was not expecting those prices to begin with and would be satisfied getting even the low to mid range on those prices. I figured i would put them on GB and see where they go. I might post them on this forum as well. Never sold anything in private forums so well see how it goes.
