Put deposit on 14-7 today (pics)
Went down to my lgs today put most of price down and will pick up on Thursday. To my surprise they had taken the rubber finger groove grips off and put a pair of smooth JM grips on. Not sure what original grips it came with but posting a pic of label on the original box. I thought it was a gun from the cdc but I think cdc1647 is actually the serial number. It is in really good shape for sure. Almost got my model 14 collection complete. A few more such as a pre model 14 and a proper 4 inch model 14 would give me most all models. Please feel free to give me some input. I think I got great deal at $450 especially with the grips. These are pics I got in store. Thursday I'll post more once I get it home and all cleaned up!

The label states "SB" stocks, which means square butt. At this time it would have meant rubber stocks - maybe ask them for those back?
CDC is the SN prefix. The CA Department of Corrections guns were stamped on the left frame under the cylinder window. The box label tells you the gun was ready to ship on the 357th day of 1998, or December 23.
Great find but you already knew that. Enjoy!

Thanks for any information I can get. Looks like gun was made in 1998. When I go back to pick up gun I will ask him if I can get the old grips. They are just like what came on my 325 pd ,so yeah I think the rubber finger groove stocks were the original grips. It seems a little nose heavy but I am used to the older revolvers. Can not wait to see if it is just as accurate as my others 14's (I'm sure it is) but something new to try out always gives me something to look forward to. I know it's only a 38 special gun as I recently read a thread referring to the the caliber as antiquated but I really like shooting the longer barreled guns at the range.

Congratulations! What is not to like about a 14? My -3 does not go the the range often enough. Not sure why, because it is a pleasure to shoot! Bob

During the dash six series, the K-38 Model 14 was changed to the round butt frame. Interesting to see if that is a SB. Fantastic price. One I bought many years ago had the rubber grips ANIB.

Congratulations, that is a very nice revolver, and a terrific price. I have a 14ND, but I would've grabbed that -7 if I ran across it.
That is a round butt gun, all of the revolvers from around '95 on were round butt frames. The square butt designation on the label refers to the grips. My 19-7 is listed as a square butt on the box label, but that is because it shipped with the Uncle Mikes round to square conversion grip. Some revolvers, such as my 625MG, came with a Hogue round to square grip. I think the 14-7 might have shipped with the Hogue from the factory, the Uncle Mikes seemed to generally be on 4" and shorter guns. You definitely want to try to get the original grips back if you can.

As an idea of the value of this one, a recent closed GB auction (a similar, slightly earlier production gun):
