Default Model 29

I have this mod 29 no dash 6 1/2 barrel. The 29 is in pretty decent shape and looks better in your hand than looking at its picture. I am wondering if I am crazy to think about offering a trade for a "nice" 1917. I had a beautiful 1917 that I inherited from my grandfather but some dirt bag stole it from me 30+ years ago. I have always wanted to replace it. Just curious if you all think this is a fair and reasonable idea to throw out there to all the 1917 owners.

I think you can get GOOD money for your 29. Especially with the correct stocks/grips. If there is any way, keep it any get yourself a nice 1917. You will NOT easily replace what you have.

The 29 will be much more expensive to replace than a 1917. The Coke grips on your 29 will sell for what you can occassionally find a 1917 for.

If it were me, I'd start putting $20 bucks away every week and in 12 months you can buy a super nice 1917.

Just my opinion, but I would NEVER let a no-dash 29 out of my sight! Much less out of my grasping claws! LOL

Totally agree with above. You have a gem in hand. Save and get your 1917.

There is no way in **** I'd get rid of a 6.5" Model 29. Save and buy a 1917.

The grips in the first photo are "cokes" which in themselves are rather rare and a nice set such as yours are worth considerable money. The lighter tone grips in the second photo appear to be Heritage grips made by Eagle. Your 29 no dash is a beautiful gun and is worth far more than the 1917. You have received good advice to keep it and save to purchase the 1917.

What he said x 1,000

Save up for the 1917. It would be a shame to let go of your M29.

Thanks, I think I will keep the model 29 but I have to ask what you consider good money for the mod 29 and thanks.

I'm negotiating for one of these right now, unfired and NIB. He's asking $4,200. Keep this beauty. Nice 1917s are going for $1,500 and up.

The 29 is worth more than most 1917's, but the old war horse is much more fun to shoot, IMO. 1917 revolvers are around in all levels of condition. No dash model 29's not so much. I own a 1917 revolvers by S&W and Colt, and they shot 10X more than the 44.

Go drink some coffee. You'll be more alert and thinking better and realize that you need to keep the M-29, whether you can later afford an old .45 or not.

It is not mine, but I don't think I could part w/ a beautiful 29! On the flip side I do like 45ACP revolvers. Have a 625JM. Bob
