Default Model 19 No Dash

Hello to all, a Model 19 No Dash has come up for sale local to me. Not having a lot of older model experience; hoping for additional info from those that know more than I.

SEE attached pics.

Gun appears unfired and owner believes so. Smallish turn line but excellent condition. Target stocks may or may not be numbered (he has not pulled them off ever)? Decoding the Serial K450....I think this is a 1961 manufacture.

Any thoughts or input to be aware of as I consider this purchase?

Thanks in advance for the help. Best, Dave

It is always easier to come by more money than it is to come by another gun like that.

Based on your photos if you like the price buy the gun. I paid $600 for this Model 19-2 which shipped in 1968. It has the 3 T's; target stocks, hammer and trigger and shoot very good.

From the picture ....it looks like some muzzle wear and "issues" above the cylinder release.................... so carried but not shot? Check the recoil shield around the firing pin for loss of bluing from recoil.

That said: really nice shooter grade.

IIRC target stocks were never numbered to the guns.......

no dash so it's Pinned and recessed........................ my WAG $500-650 in this market if you could find one for sale in a local shop.

I'm thinking (oh, oh) that OP's 19 has target hammer and trigger too. Not sure if that bumps the price up, it would sure bump up my interest.

Certainly worth pursuing IMO. Pics look good, so besides the normal function checks, the determining factor is price. Assuming gun only... has seller priced it yet???

Default CA is La-La Land

Thanks to all for their replies.

Having grown up in the West San Fernando Valley (outside LA) and still live here it's not what it used to be. About the only thing any politician here will let me carry is my phone, wallet and keys. If I could my original 1989 6906 (of course with CA 10-round mags-another sore subject) would be on my hip.

This is a SoCal sale and pricing is as such. Our Roster is F'g Bull**** helping pricing jump for Off-Rosters in the past few years.

Seller is asking $1200 for the gun only. IMHO it's worth CA- $1050 (I Can hear Mid-West and East Coast sighs from here).

As a reference I sold one of my Model 66-2/Non P&R; BNIB for $1200 last April. I know crazy but true. I passed on a BNIB 586 No Dash for $1100 last month here. Rather have a P&R K Frame...

We'll see how I progress with this. Best, Dave

I was under the impression that pre-lock guns were really hard to sell in CA - or maybe that just applies to shipping one "into" California. An attorney in LA was having trouble purchasing my 19-3 - he referenced this link which seems to be under maintenance now....

Default Pre Lokz

Shipping here is the issue. Per our fearless leaders anything not on the current roster is not safe! Yes, BS fer sure...

Pre Locks are the only type of Wheelgun worth anything. Who wants Hillary's Hole in their gun?

No dash M19's are fairly scarce. The early pre M19's are fairly rare. I gave $1,100 for my no dash M19 and it is drippy mint. On the other hand I gave $1,250 for my also drippy mint, pre M19 and was glad to get it. It was my Grail Gun at the time.
Very few of these had numbered stocks. The early guns had walnut targets and a couple years later, they used the Goncalo Alves type. Just jacked up the price by $10. I think I would buy the mentioned revolver, especially with TT and TH. Big Larry

If you are comfortable with the price and the condition buy it.
IMHO it is hard to beat a M19 with a four inch barrel or a M27 with a five inch. Those two have always looked perfectly 'balanced' to the eye to me.

I am not familiar with prices where you live. With the muzzle wear I believe the price is very steep. I paid 1750 for one that was LNIB all original. But it was LNIB.As to the grips being numbered i have only seen that on very early Pre 19s aka Combat Magnums without model stamping. In my neck of the woods I would guess 750 to 800.00 for the one pictured. The early Combat Magnums sometimes had numbered grips and I do have one with numbered matching grips. But I had a article generously given to me from Doc44 (Thanks again DOC) that states it was not uncommon for the grips to not have matching numbers on the Pre 19. If my eyes are awake I see muzzle wear. So if you are buying it for a shooter that's where I would set my price range. If you are buying a collector price I would keep looking as I believe you can find a better condition one. They do come up. Welcome to the crazy world of Combat Magnum collecting! When I first started i would buy what ever i could get. Now I just try and find pristine examples. Also I am not sure the grips on the one he is trying to sell are correct for that era. Notice the lower right corner of the curve on the one you pictured and compare the lower right corner of jack the toads 19-1. I was educated if you will by another forum member about that. The slight curve was typically on 19-2 models where as the earlier revisions had a sharper angle.
That can be challenging and very expensive!

Did you letter that 19-1? It looks awesome. I have a blued one but I am looking for a numbers matching one with a box. As I said above it is a challenge.

Default Thanks for reminding me i live in CA

While I certainly appreciate the "it's worth only this..." Walk a mile in my shoes here in SoCal. Unless you live here, buy and sell guns here you just have no understanding of what's available, what comes available and what you do if you find one available.

Yes I bought it and it will reside in my S&W Magnum collection. And already sent off to Roy J for the letter.

A fool and his money...not quite...now I have one and the other Californians don't. This is a chitty libro haven. All working against me and those like me. We cannot be trusted and certainly must be evil. Can't wait till the "ammo ban" starts Jan 1st.

If I did not grow up right where I live, my business of 36 years was not my business of 36 years, my family and friends weren't here, my Pops and MIL weren't here and our son didn't live and go to grad school here...you get my drift?

...I need a drink...

I guess you "gotta do what you gotta do" if you want to buy certain types of guns in Cali.

Just for reference, I see older model 19s pop up locally for around $500, maybe slightly more like $550 or $600 depending on condition/etc.

I think if I had to pay CA prices, I probably wouldn't buy anything. Just not worth it to me personally. So I feel for you guys. On the other hand, I could use CA prices to make myself feel better about the one and only purchase I just had to have and it cost me a premium.

You guys pay more for everything in California, so why would it be different for Model 19? If you're happy because you own it now that's all that counts.

All I can say for sure is I wish my 19 no-dash was as nice as the one's pictured here. But then I only paid about 1/3 of the OP's price too....

A little late to the thread, but I think the price was reasonable, given that it’s Cali. I would have paid that here in Florida, mainly because it is a birth year revolver for me and I’ve been wanting one of those in a 57 and 19 in that order. I’m still looking and hope to find one a little cheaper given my location. By the way, what does “drippy mint” mean?

It's just a condition phrase coined by my friend, a Chief of Police in Alabama. His gun collection would put many to shame, including my own. Big Larry

Don't get all bent man.

The bigger point I was making is yours is in WAY nicer shape than mine. Yours is a near pristine example and mine is a finish-worn shooter. Like I said, I wish mine were as nice as yours.

Even in Cali, the shooter I bought would probably only fetch half what your nice one is worth. Maybe $600 or $700.

All that matters is that you are happy with your purchase. Enjoy it.

From what I see on TV on the real estate shows, my house would sell for at least triple its current market value were it located in SoCal. Guess guns are no different.

Default Not Bent...Happy

Thanks to all for the positive remarks.

My 19 is even better in person.

CA is just nuts with values on stuff. I have purchased many guns at "rest of the US prices" however some are what they are and when they are in front of you they are in front of you.

To answer: I do have a Fire Proof Ft. Knox safe.

Best

Default Model 19 No Dash

As a. Fellow Californian I feel your pain. In order to get my birth year gun a 1951. I found one out of state. So I had to get my 03FFL pay what the seller wanted which was a very fair price pay registration wait the 10 days making sure I did not pick it up one minute early (CA DOJ PULLS DEALERS LICENSES for early release). With the latest law changes my 03FFL IS WORTHLESS. Like you I feel am trapped my family has owned this property for four generations. It is Like living in a national park. Family is buried here. There is just no way to replace it somewhere else.
