20-2 Austin PD gun and Regulation Patrol????
20-2, ARRIVED HOME:
Been looking for the scare guns and recently picked the 20-2, Austin PD, one of 50 revolvers. Looked forward to picking it up from my FFL for over a week. Needless to say I was not disappointed. This is a 1964 gun, so 52 years later, it is a beauty.
I was surprised at how heavy this revolver is.
POLICE REGULATION:
To my surprise, when I arrived to pick up my 20-2, my FFL pulled out a small 5 shot older looking revolver and said it had just walked through the door on consignment the day before. It is very small and says "Police Regulation" on one side of the barrel and the serial number appears to be 4748.
Using the book, this appears to be an early production Pre Model 33. Any input into the background of this model and what I should offer, would be great! Thanks in advance
Any information anyone can provide would be helpful
Gil

That is one fine (and rare) Heavy Duty.
Watch out! Ringo1597 (Larry) will be along to try and recruit it for his recreation of the APD revolver armory!

What should you offer? I'd start at $600 and have another three bills in my pocket.

The RP 38 is in excellent shape, but you can probably start a bit lower. I paid 595 for the one pictured below, with some use wear around the edges. Check what these have been closing for on GB lately.
About 5000 of these were made and shipped from March until late fall of 1917 before war production interfered; this batch is generally referred to, somewhat incorrectly, as "pre-war". There are some very few documented that shipped in 1918, and then shipments resumed later in 1919. Most collectors prefer this batch.
PS: There is basically no use wear visible in your photos, and I can't even make out any real turn line; on the other hand, the barrel close-up seems to show a lot of fine pitting, indicating some storage neglect. I tend to prefer things the other way around
