Default 14-3 with 5" barrel...how rare...rough value?

Hello,

I have been offered a 14-3 with 5" barrel in trade, but I'm having difficulty finding much in the way of an approximate value. A non-tapered barrel with patridge front sight is installed so I believe that the gun is a K38 Masterpiece rather than a Combat Masterpiece. It is in excellent condition with the exception of some wear on the magna grips and light turn line on the cylinder. No box or accessories are included. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Photos would help here, especially of the muzzle crown and front sight install; it is either a factory special order, or more likely a gunsmith modification.

Photo would help. There is a premium for a 5" barrel variation.

$450 to $600 range?

I paid $459 for this 6" Model 14-3 back in July. Good shooter.

Below is a photo that I have been provided by the owner. Upon inspection, it appears to be a 6" barrel rather than a 5" as the owner stated...correct?

I would think the range mentioned here is a good estimate for any of the 6 inch barrels and as he mentions the 5 inch if from factory that way- would command a premium. ?any pics.?

Yes it's a 6". Did the seller tell you it was 5" bbl? I would be cautious in dealing with him.

Did he measure from the muzzle to the cylinder or the front of the frame?

Common mistake with 'non-gun" folks.......................

Yes, but the gun was inherited from his grandfather as was the info. I have asked him to re-measure from the cylinder face. I honestly have no interest in trading if the gun is a 6" as it appears to be. Thank you for your help gentlemen.

Yes, it is a 6". May be a good deal depending on the price, looks nice.

If you're one of the ever-decreasing number of people who like to shoot for fun, you couldn't do much better than that gun.

I believe his expected trade value is $700 which is much higher than I'd consider for a 6" -3. I believe that price would have been more than fair for a 5" gun. I am assuming that for $700, I should be able to find a minty example that has an original box, etc.

I was actually searching for a nice 6" or 8 3/8" Model 17 in trade for a Bushmaster A2 HBAR when this came up for sale / trade locally. I figured that it was worth serious consideration due to the advertised 5" barrel...too bad it didn't pan out.

Yes, $700 would be high for a NIB example. Perhaps $200 or so less as pictured.

Thanks Bob...yes, I am one of the increasing minority that enjoys target shooting with revolvers and everything in my collection sees some degree of range use.
