Default Dating Model 36 SN 183XXX

Howdy!

Been a few months since I was last here, but I've stumbled upon a S&W Mod 36 Serial 183XXX. Any idea of manufacture/ship date? She shows some age and unfortunately it has Pachmayr grips and not originals.

Thanks in advance!
Dave

Dave, I have 198431 which shipped in 3/61. So a guess on yours would be 4th quarter of 1960. You are a member so you can go to Ship Date and ask Roy Jinks for a more accurate dating. Sometimes takes a while to be one of the five in line (a reading of the rules is important). In the meantime enjoy that little shooter.

Thanks! I'm not an SWCA member so I don't have access to the Ship Date page. Your info though is most helpful!

Yes, but for the paltry sum of $60/year you could !!!!! Less than 17 cents a day. !!!!

Default Model 36 Serial Number

I have a model 36 with a 3 inch barrel. It is from the mid 1970's. I sent an e-mail to S&W with the serial number and they gave me the date.

I did the same when I bought mine back in 2015. They told me it was 1972. When I asked Roy he told me it shipped in 1974. Being a member here has taught me that s/n date and shipping date are not always the same.
