Smith & Wesson Model 19 2.5"
Came across a Model 19-3 with 2.5" barrel for $500 in a classified ad. Is this a good value for this revolver? I've seen many Model 19s with 4" barrels being sold for $600 or more.

Unless there is something bad wrong with it that is an excellent price on a 2.5”

Let me know where it is. I'll let you know it it was worth the $500.00.
Seriously, if you don't jump on it, I will.

Even before I saw your comment, I thought, "I'd jump on that!"

Hard to tell from the picture, but if all is good it is a great price for a very nice gun.

I have one and it one of my favorite revolvers and one nice carry piece in a simply rugged pancake holster. Who ever owned it before me had the trigger worked on and it feels like it has bearings in it.

Hope you get it, as others have said $500 is a great price for a pinned and recessed 2.5 inch Model 19 assuming it is in nice condition. I paid more than that for my 19-3 2.5 inch nickel back in 2011. At the last gun show I attended there was a guy wandering around with one and asking $950. Don't know if he sold it. Good luck.

That is one heck of a good price, don't let it get away if everything appears ok. Just bought a 19-4 nickle 2 1/2" barrel a couple week ago for $500.
I had a rough idea of what it was worth but had never done any serious research on prices. I was just in the right place at the right time and if I didn't buy it somebody less deserving would have. It wasn't until I got home and looked at completed auctions etc. that I knew how good a deal I fell into.

Did you find it on the 40% off rack? That's a steal.

I still have mine from my LEO days. It was my Plainclothes duty weapon. I know that back in the 1970's I paid almost that much for mine.

As pretty much everybody else said, assuming the weapon is in decent condition that is a good to outstanding price.

Sounds like a good price for a 19 snub. There is one advertised locally to me priced at $550, and I thought that wasn't bad. Just had a little bit of blue loss on the muzzle from honest wear.
Just make sure it's mechanically sound.

Back in the 70's and early 80's most of us wanted either a 2.5" 19 or 66 for plainclothes assignments and off-duty. I had one of each (at different times, of course - couldn't afford both in those days). Great little revolvers, and highly sought after, especially by us old farts.

The few I've seen lately that were mint, were priced at $1,250! One at a gun show and it looked brand new, but it was a - 3 or - 4 had pinned barrel and recessed cylinder, with nickel finish. No idea if it had a box or not. Another online, blued - 3 with box and papers in mint condition, same price. This is why I don't yet own one.

a little late, but...
Hello, I just encountered this thread. For what s worth, I bought a 19-3, 2.5" on Gun Broker this past winter for $650 or $675...I can't remember which. The gun is about 95% and very, very smooth and tight. I considered the price to be neither wonderfully good nor bad. It was a piece I wanted and could afford, and I'm very pleased with it. The magnas came off immediately to be replaced by Herrett's.
Cheers.
John

Looks like a good shooter grade gun. Get pictures of the cylinder where it looks a bit corroded. Still 5 bills is a good price.

Five years ago, I stumbled on this one at a local gun show. It was wearing square butt Pachmayr stocks. The couple at the table had a price tag of $450 on it. I offered $425 and they immediately accepted my offer.
Took it home and put proper stocks on it.
Edit: The story has a sequel. A couple years ago, someone on this Forum wanted a pair of square butt K frame Pachmayr stocks. I packaged up the pair that I got with this gun and sent them to him gratis. Now everyone is happy!

I sure wish I could stumble upon a great deal like you did. I guess it's time to hit the Gun Show Circuit. You did great because that Snubby is gorgeous!
